n00b: 1st wc setup help

Hey, my first post here maybe some wat stupid for some of you hardcore water cooling freaks here, but anyways.

I just put together my first water cooling setup with a

black ice extreme
maze 3
eheim 1048
1/2 i.d braided tubing (quite thick)

running a athlon 1.4 @1.6 (air cooled)

now for a res i was thinking of making one inside the case, but unfortunately i got really tight for space (inwin q500)

so i placed a bucket beside my desk on the floor i have the eheim submerged in the bucket, the top of the bucket is overed with plexi glass, but there is a opening to fill the bucket.

will having a bucket as my res lead to any problems? like algea and bacteria's ? will they/can they be harmful to anyone in my room , the last thing i want is some kinda disease from the bacterias, i hav a bottle of water wetter.

So basically any drawbacks to using a bucket as a res.

Thanks Guys

Welcome to the forums man

ya know if your tight for space u could do without the res and make a closed loop system

nope a bucket for a res wont hurt u the worst that could happen was a little algae would start growing over time...but i bet a qucik trip to a petstore that carrys fish supplys could fix u up with something to stop the algae

just think about it u can live around fish aquariums...

but i must warn u that water wetter does have a strong smell to it

what kind of water are you using? you should only use distilled water. You should add something to stop corosion to. Like water wetter. You can get that from www.dangerden.com. You can also get a nice clear blue res from them. Or you could use a under ground electrical box from home depot. I wouldn't use a bucket, but thats just cause it sounds like it looks ugly.

I'm using distilled water, i dont think there should be any corrosion since both the rad and block are copper, i did buy a junction box a circular one, the initial plan i had was to use the junction box to make the res with a clear front, but the problem is that the tubing i have is braided and its quite thick, the plus it doesnt crinkel (spell) but when you bend it, it needs quite a bit of room to bend. if i tried going the junction box way the only room i found was on top of my psu and the tubes wouldnt bend to where the res was. I know everyone is using tygon but its just too damn expensive, vinyl tubing is just to crap, so i had to go with 1/2' i.d braided tubing

tygon is a little spendy, but how much do you need 5ft? thats like 15$ not to bad. In'st the braid you have just vinyl with a fiber braid for reinforcement?

try heating the hose up in boiling / hot water. the hose will become soft and you can shape it to a nice tight bend (which it will keep) easily.
oh, and you might want something to prevent biological growth; you dont want that junk clogging up your radiator / waterblock.

mine only gets foamy white when i got air bubbles it it...and i did notice with my first use of water wetter it does tend to foam some

make sure its not sucking air somewhere on your inlet side of your pump

is your pump submerged in your res?

yeah the pump is fully submerged in 4 litres of water, since you say air bubbles, could it be caused by this. my tube which throws out the cool water water from the rad into the res isn't at water level, its just above the water line, maybe the water falling on to the water in the bucket is casueing it.

Thanks will try to fix that and see wat happens
