What exactly is the real use of a reservoir? They don't seem very necessary. In fact, I rarely seem to see them installed on your water cooling systems. Do you guys recommend using them?...why/whynot?

Two reasons.
First filling by a bleed is an agonizing process that can take hours. Second, it bleeds in just a few minutes instead of weeks. I use a simple PVC res inline with my Eheim via its threaded fittings, and frankly its worth it. |

Third... More coolant means it takes longer for your lil cpu to heat it up thus changing your heat-up curve...
