Default velcro?

Hi all!

I was curious if anyone tried securing their radiator and accompanying fans using industrial velcro. I was thinking about it, but I wasn't sure if it would hold. I have a BIX situated in 4 5.25" bays at the bottom of my YY cube case, so the rad would have velcro on both sides and the bottom as well.

Thanks for any replies!

It's possible, it's been done.

Why would you want to do that though?

I use velcro to hold my res. to the outside of my case and to secure my pump to the inside floor of my case.

Sounds like it would work just fine in the situation that you are describing. Just make sure that you secure the velcro to the radiator and the case very well (like with epoxy). Otherwise, with the thermal changes that will happen, the velcro may come loose of the rad. or case and then it wont work

Good luck. Let us know how well it worked out.

Well, originally I didn't have anything to bolt the rad to. But I was playing around with the drive rails and drive covers today and I had the good fortune that the holes in the drive cover EXACTLY aligned with the radiator fan holes so I didn't have to do any serious modding. All I gotta do is put a piece of lexan and some velcro underneath the rad and all is good (still using the velcro cause I have it and it's the right height).

jtroutma, what kind of pump do you have? I was also thinking of using velcro to secure my pump since it rests on top of my PSU.

Thanks for all the posts!

Well, the industrial velcro that I had in the Navy (3M) would literally stick someone to a wall (yup, we tried it ). So if you have the same stuff or similar, you should be fine. Make sure that you have enough surface area for the velcro to work well, and also not to block any airflow.

I picked up some velcro at Lowes and use it to secure my pump (not eheim sized, tho) and the bottom of my rad. The top of the rad is secured with a ziptie system, but the velcro has been holding very well. It absorbs some of the pump's vibrations and hasn't given out yet. I've been lanning with this beast and moving it a lot in general and the velcro has been holding fine. I would have used screws/bolts, but I wanted an easy way to rip my system apart.

artemis0007:

I am using a Rio 1100 modded to run inline. Right now I have the support rail on the pump and the velcro is on the feet. What I am going to do is remove the rail and put some more velcor directly on the under side of my pump so it is lower and I dont have to worry about some velcro getting dirty. The rail is not wide enough to cover all the velcro

Works really well and I can pull my pump out at will and not have to worry about it when I move around my machine, like during the occasional LAN party!!!

ALso it does absorb the vibrations comming off the pump.
