I need to have an All-In-Wonder by September 27th... Those features are more important than gaming capability as I am not having a TV in my apartment this year. ATi is definitely phasing out its 8500 series, but does this include the AIW products? If so, think they'll make a budget AIW card based on the 9000? I'd love to wait for the 9700 based AIW card, but I doubt I'd be able to get my grubby paws on one by the time Sept 27th, move out day, rolls around. Whatcha y'all thinkin'?

well just wait till early september. by then 8500 aiw prices should have dropped a bit and you'd have a better idea if ati is gonna release a 9000 series aiw card. the wait is the worst part of it tho... well actually the big hole its gonna make in your wallet but still

I would imagine that they will (although the key word here is imagine... cause I have no proof)
(edit: in Anandtech's coverage of the 9000 line they mention the AIW as a planned product, but the timeline is not mentioned.) But if you follow the AIW line they have been included in pretty much every gpu line so far. An interesting change though has been the 8500-128mb card (not the DV) which has clock speeds on par with its gaming counterpart. So no sacrifice in gaming speed (when compared to the non AIW card).

Your original post makes it sounds like you need the card simply for its TV tuning capability. If that's the case, just get yourself a TV tuner add-in card. Otherwise I'd agree with the others that say "wait and see".
FWIW, I've owned both the 7500 AIW (sold to friend) and 8500 AIW DV (running in A7M266D). I couldn't tell ya the last time I played a "current" game, so each has done very well in my book. I also run a 15" NEC LCD panel, so nothing over 1024X768 matters. I'm confident the 8500 would handle any game at that resolution and 32 bpp with no problem. |

I was going to just get a TV tuner, but I want ATi's remote, it's gaming performance, it's TiVO-style PVR software, and it's S-video inputs.
-Kevin Yeah looks like i'm waitin' and seein'

the remote kicks ass!
I can change the music from out in the front yard. (winamp plugin) Also the power point plug in rocks for presentations. Divx player just came out with a plugin as well. Oh i've got the AIW 8500-128 card.

Here Kev, this might float your boat.
ATI Remote Wonder USB "Integrates perfectly with all RADEON graphics products" $49.99 USD/$79.99 CDN from the ATI online store. *EDIT* "Offers mouse and application control, no matter what graphics are on-board" Sweet...it'll work for us Nvidia guys too.
