Default Offset of new "upgrade" Danger Den Maze 2

Well, I just recieved an Email from Danger Den and they say the way to tell if you have a new "upgrade" waterblock with the spiral pattern versus the maze pattern is the difference in the offset of the center fitting.

I'd appreciate a couple measurements from whoever has time so maybe we can get a basis for comparison.

Please measure the distance from the center of the inlet to the closest side. Also if you know or think it's one or the other please post.

Then we can all be assured of what type we have.

Thanks,
Guy Farquharson

Great idea... Would people please post some measurements. I will be posting mine as soon as it arrives. I still don't know which one I received.

OK, I spent some time printing and measuring the pictures Redleader posted. If the maze's are 2" x 3.15" (which they arent't always, this is the size listed by Danger Den). The offsets from the center of the inlet fitting to the closest wall are as follows:

Old Maze:
Fitting to Wall: 1.00"
Tollerance: 0.08"

New Maze "Upgrade":
Fitting to Wall: 0.765"
Tollerance: 0.055"

The tollerance is due to the fact that the opening below the fitting is larger than 3/8", so it could be mounted closer or further from the closest wall.

Remember however that these measeurements where taken from pictures that I blew up and used 2" as referance width.

Note that the old maze should be nearly centered and the new maze is at about .235 (almost a quarter inch) closer to the wall than center.

Please send real measurements so we can back up these estimates

Thanks everybody!

Edit: By marking on a piece of paper 1" and .765 I checked my Maze 2 and it definetly is the newer version. I can't get a more accurate measurement as it's already installed, and theres no room for a caliper.

Ok, I have the measurements, but it's in metric units... I HATE INCHES, Fahrenheit, and all that other crap... SI UNITS please!!!

I have the new revision block, and the offset is VERY noticeable. If the centre barb in not in the centre of the block, it's the new design - here are the measurements of the new block - from the nearest wall...

block size - 8cm x 5 cm
inlet barb (the centre barb) distance from closest edges:
4cm x 2 cm
outlet barb (the corner barb) distance from closest edges:
2cm x 1 cm

The measurements were taken from the centre of the barb to the edge.

Here is a pic of the new block... i tried to make it as close to scale as possible.

Have fun, and I hope I helped!

I appreciate the measurements. I guess I didn't do to bad with my estimations from the pictures.

8cm x 5cm is 3.15" x 1.97" (about what I assumed)
2cm center to closest wall is 0.787" (which should fit within the tollerance of the new block I guessed at)

Thanks for the backup. I guess now it's really not even necessary to measure, if the inlet is near dead center, your old... almost totally over the center line, your new.

Pretty Simple.

Thanks Again Everybody, I'm definetely running the new block, hope this makes it easier for anyone else wondering

yep, you did DAMN good on the estimations... Now all I want is a review comparing the two versions of the block. Possibly with BOTH a small (less than 250gph) and large(greater than 350gph) pump. I wanna know how much the flow affects the performance of the two blocks.

Cheers mates!

I can't really say... what I can tell you is it doesn't appear as though the maze2 adds any large restriction to flow as bubbles in the water appear to be moving as fast as if its bypassed (very fast).

I have a maze2, mag-drive 350 and homemade big-momma all on 1/2" and sometimes I'm not sure if its running as it's hard to actually see things moving there going so fast.

I'd say even a smaller pump would be the same (maybe back to my 250) as then less contribution of heat from pump

Just got back and Guy already figured it out. Thanks.

Darn though, best as I can tell I have the old block. What I don't understand is why I got an old one. I ordered mine after Guy's and its also 1/2 inch, just like his.

I had a lot of trouble getting mine (as the web site didn't like me being from Canada). I sent a lot of emails, and in a couple I asked for the new version, but never said "upgrade" in the comments like they now ask, I really didn't know the difference until recently when HighVoltagePC posted the article.

So where abouts is your inlet, nearly dead center? I was under the impression that Danger Den was shipping the 1/2" versions in the new style to correspond with the greater flow potential of 1/2". Hmmm...

I wouldn't be to worried. Danger Den finally wrote me back and still won't specify measurements, but they said there wasn't a measureable differance between the two in the same system without the use of a peltier (and there still just speculating that the extra wall in the center of the core will aid heat transfer with a peltier due to more surface area above the core, but not sure).
