Hey guys, I was doing my summer reading last night (school started today) and I came across this interesting fact. Our bodies use evaporative cooling everyday when we sweat! Heat is removed from our bodies using phase change from liquid to gas. I personally found it very interesting and this fact can be used to explain evaporative cooling to n00bs. I personally had a hard time understanding bong cooling. But ofcourse, that was a long time before I found the Pro/Forums

I haven't read the link, but I was really fascinated and simultaneously grossed out when I found out (many years ago) that the skin performs the same dumping function as the kidneys. If your kidneys shut down, you sweat more because it's essentially the same thing as urine.
Skin: your body's backup kidneys. |

Oh no! I am not saying that the skin can REPLACE the kidneys, but they can work as a stopgap for a brief time. Kind of like putting a hand pump onto a medium sized boat as a replacement for the BIG bilge pumps. It won't substitute for long, but it can hold off catastrophic failure in the hopes that the real thing can be brought back online.
