Maze 2-1 and tubing

The connectors are 3/8" OD, 3/8" ID or 3/8" NPT?

3/8" tubing is OD, ID or NPT measured?

If you purchase the 3/8" version the connectors are barbs which accept 3/8" ID tubing.

Theres also a version which accepts 1/2" ID tubing and from looking I can guess these barbs which thread in to the block are 3/8" NPT regardless of the block having the 3/8" or 1/2" barbs, but there glued in, so I've never checked.

yeah the npt is 3/8. That means that the id of that fitting is a lil bit above 1/4. Kinda defeats the purpose of 1/2 tubing wouldn't you think?

3/8 NPT has a much larger ID than 1/4", in fact its ID is probably near 3/8" on a decent fitting. NPT sizes have no comparison to thread sizes, they are usually close to ID sizes for flow in pipes.

In fact the best barbs I found to complete my Big Momma like heater core where 1/2" NPT Male with 1/2" Barb. The smooth inside fit perfectly over the 1/2" copper pipe which was soldered into the heater core.

If you look into the 1/2" fittings (with 3/8" NPT thread) you will see they do not neck down. 1/2" NPT fittings have almost a 3/4" thread.

I might be mistaken but I was told that the maze blocks(2.1 and 2.2) use 1/4"NPT fittings.

Now on a 1/4"NPT fitting the inner diameter is 1/4", Of course some manufacturers go larger, but only up to about 5/16" or so.

So if your running 1/2" tubing but still using a 1/4"NPT port, your not getting as much of a gain as you might think.

Best thing is to move to 3/8"NPT or even 1/2"NPT. Although 1/2"NPT is a BITCH to put in a block.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't really understand NPT (though I'm trying to find info on it; it just hasn't been that easy so far). However, my Maze I, with 3/8" connectors, is 1/8" NPT, and it definitely doesn't look like it's only an eight of an inch wide at the bottom. There's no apparent taper, either.

Since NPT stands for National Pipe Thread, I'm thinking the measurement maybe has to do with thread pitch and not diameter?

I dunno, but if someone else does, I'd like to.

My Maze2 (1st edition) uses 3/8" barbs. The threads outer diameter is a lil bit bigger than the od of the barb. I suppose that is 3/8 NPT then.

I have a 1/2 NPT 1/2 barb and the id of the threaded part is 11/16" and the od of the threads is 3/4". I recend my earlier statement about the 3/8 barb being 1/4 id.
