Default Pump questions (just a few)...

I am looking at watercooling my rig, and have just been given a neato idea for a res, that would be easily big enough to hold a pump, around RIO 800 size. This would save a heap of space, as I'm trying to do this in a fairly small midi case. (I'm not even coming close to other efforts, I know, but its my first attempt...)

Basically, what I want to know is if people think I should get a submersible or inline pump (an inline pump is a fair bit cheaper too - major consideration for me). I'm in Australia, and its VERY hard to find good stuff that is reasonably priced - for example, a Eheim 1250 is over AUD$170 (around 85 USD) whereas you can buy it for about 60 USD in US.

Brands I'm looking at are Rio, Eheim (if I win the lottery ), and Atman.

Also, any suggestions on pump rating? I'm looking at a Rio 800 or 1000, or an Eheim 1250. Atman also do an 800 and 1000 lph model (200 and 250 gph or thereabouts)

Thanks in advance...

Sorry, forgot to say, rig will (hopefully) be a Black Ice (unless Extreme comes out and is reasonable - price wise) and a Cyclone 1 or 2 block - They're Australian made and are about the same performance wise as DD stuff, but obviously cheaper over here. The model 1 is 3/8, and the 2 is 1/2...

Thanks again...

Not a Danner? They aren't nearly as crappy as a Rio and still cost less then the Eheim.

Aren't nearly as crappy? I'd trust my life to a Danner pump.. As long as you don't have a gorilla tightening the fittings into the pump and cracking it, Danners are awesome.

I didn't include Danner cos I haven't found them anywhere easily accessible yet. The only ones I've found are the Pondmasters, which I have read bad stuff about with EMI etc... The upside is that they cost the same as a Rio, or close enough anyway. I ahven't been able to check any pet shops yet, hope to do that in the very near future... I'm still in the process of saving up enough to go through with this...

There is a general picture that I'm getting... and it seems to be "Avoid Rio, and save..."

Thanks all, and more replies!!! What can I say - I'm greedy...

If I were you, I'd spend the bit of extra cash for an Eheim 1250. Honestly, you can figure that's a component you'll probably never need to upgrade. In the computer world, those don't exist too often.

My problem is that a Eheim 1250 is twice the price of a 250gph Danner/Pondmaster pump, and people seem to be saying that they are almost as good. And I'm on a REALLY tight budget...

Next question is about hose diameter, cos I will have a Black Ice, which comes with stock 3/8 fittings, should I just stick with 3/8 thru the whole system? Keep in mind that I am a n00b at all this water stuff...

Also, thanks to everyone who has responded, particularly Kevin (you are a Moderator like no other... )

DONT GET A PONDMASTER. You will have really bad EMI problems with it. The pondmaster has little or no sheilding in it. It's made to be outside...
