the guy who sold it to me , first told me it is copper, now admits it is the mixture as described in the topic. now, if this performs between copper and aluminium, then it is fine with me.
for the ones that have the knowledge, i googeled this, but don't understand what they are saying. thermodynamic properties for copper: http://www.webelements.com/webelemen.../Cu/thdyn.html thermodynamic properties for aluminium: http://www.webelements.com/webelemen.../Al/thdyn.html thermodynamic properties for zinc: http://www.webelements.com/webelemen.../Zn/thdyn.html specific gravity for copper = 8920 kg/m^3 specific gravity for zinc = 7140 kg/m^3 specific gravity for aluminium = 2700kg/m^3 here is the original table of mendelejev: http://www.webelements.com/ |

Copper and Zinc... Isn't that Brass?
How it's going to perform depends on two factors: Heat density and thermal resistance. You can approzimate with the percentages. Off-hand, you should be OK. |

Errr, if this is what I think it is, you got brass instead of copper...
look at the table, thermal conductivity... ![]() http://www.precisionsteel.com/intro5...e&Phys=Thermal

thx bigben; but do u understand the values that are given at those thermodynamics links? i know from the physics classes long ago that gave a value to:
the amount of energy needed (in joule) to heat up 1 kg of a certain material by 1°K. is that the S° value from the links i posted? if i (we) were to have those numbers , we could very precisely predict any alloy/material thinkable. |

omg, from that table one could conclude that that brass conducts heat 3 times worse than copper!!!
i'm gonna ask my money back |

Got it.
http://www.ai.mit.edu/people/tk/tks/tcon.html and http://www.efunda.com/materials/allo...properties.cfm and http://www.allmeasures.com/Formulae/...ty_300K/44.htm Copper's thermal conductivity is 393.7 W/mK, and Zinc is 102.4 W/mK, so Zinc is actually 4 times worse. Specific Heat Copper: 385 J/kg-K Zinc: 388 J/kg.K Those seem to be about the same. Composition: http://budgetcastingsupply.com/Metals.htm Yellow Brass: 67% Copper, 29% Zinc, 3% Lead, and 1% Tin |

Ok, reading straight out of Kaye and Laby - Tables of Physical and Chemical Constants
Pure Cu - 403 Watts per metre per Kelvin @273K (zero celsius) Cu-30wt%Zn (Brass) - 106 W/mK @273K Hate to break the bad news but that metal you have performs less than half as well as Aluminium and Aquarter of the performance of Pure Copper If anyone wants any other constants, this book has just about everything. Also, if you need any properties of materials explaining, I'm a 3rd year Metallurgy and Science of Materials student. 8-Ball |

That's right, except much of it is in notes which I need to copy off people.
By next summer, when I have finals, I should be brushed up on everything. |

thx for setting me straight on this one guys; really appreciate it.
i hate this guy for telling me i was buying Copper, and he was actually selling me brass . if i wanted brass, i would have asked for it. is it so hard to tell the truth? spot a n00b, and fex0r him over |
