Default Nanoblock, or GhettoBlock?

Hehe.. Ok, your going to ignore what I type and gawk at the pictures anyways.. So let's just show 'em.

For those who don't recognize that block, it's the Overclock-Watercool mini V-Tuned block. Designed to be completely unrestrictive. Theory goes that the waterblock should be unrestrictive, so that it's not holding the water back at all, so the water doesn't have time to heat up, because it transfers heat best when there's a large temperature difference.
Anyways.. 2 problems, it's not very stable on the core, and I got it without a clip, so I didn't have a way to mount it..
Out comes the plumbers goop...

And into the oven it goes for a fast dry. hehe.. I put normal Arctic Silver on the core, and then plumbers goop all around the block, I added more plumbers goop after the first layer had dried.
When I went to put the CPU in the socket I encountered I minor problem.. Damn arm on the socket was running into the block that was hanging over the edge.. I quickly pondered my options, and decided the best option was to re-engineer the socket, so I ripped it apart, and flipped the arm over. Now the arm is on the other side of the socket.

Pretty cool huh? So how does it perform? Well, I went from a DangerDen Maze1C to this.. Dropped 4f with this contraption.
It's a Duron 800 @ 1050 (150x7) at 2.1v on an ECS K7S5A motherboard. (Uber budget setup right now, $52 MB, $30 CPU, $12 waterblock).. hehe.. It's at 109f at full load with a 68f room temp.

I always wondered if that little nothing of a block functioned well. I guess so!

Yeah, I thought it wouldn't. But Chip insisted, so I went ahead and tried.. Glad I did.. Now I have a great little $12 waterblock to recommend to people on a budget.

Did you turn the oven on? What temp?
That is very sweet looking, I guess if you were confident that you were gonna leave it on you could use thermal adhesive.

the block desperately needs a good clip, maybe even use the 4 holes. some kind of rigid frame that snaps on or something.

that thing beat out a MAZE 1C???

pretty hairy install method there, dunno if I trust it myself. Maybe if Chip came up with a clip or plexi mount I would be a little more interested. For the average water abuser (ie just about anyone but Una) I don't see this as too feasible. Still you can't argue the results, nice job.

I wouldn't trust that mounting method considering tubing gets moved around in my case. I would think the odds are pretty good that that will come unseated and leave you with a burned up CPU. Couldn't you accomplish the same thing with a normal copper block (just put a single channel in it so it has inlet right over the die and then an outlet on the side)? Then you could mount it reliably (although this would come at the expense of cost).

something like this...

the red bar would snap on and at least stabilize the block in one axis.

put springs on each side of the red bar to equalize any torquing??

It at least needs to grab all three lugs for stability.

Yes, it beat the Maze1C at full load. At idle, it's the same. This block does come with a clip to hold it on, I got the block from Joe, not Chip, who didn't send the clip. Chip is sending the clip, but I wasn't patient enough to wait for it. (Damn, sounds like an IBM commercial with all the rhyming) And yes, the oven was on, in the "warm setting", which is somewhere between 125 and 160f.

yeah fellas, he answered my post over at hardforums, there is a clip, just too impatient to wait for it.

plus, if he used the clip, it wouldn't have been as interesting.

i still can't believe it beat out a maze1 though. that is crazy.

Ok, I've been re-informed. There isn't a clip. Part of the deal with the low price.. Maybe he can offer a clip for an extra couple bucks or something.. Either way, I'm getting a clip soon, I'll toss it on there just for piece of mind.
