How in the hell do I block people from sending me that console message. People are abusing it to send spam messages and I forget how to disable it.

Disable the Messenger service if you're in Win2K/XP.
Don't worry, it's not part of MSN Messenger, if you use that. |

start - settings- control panel - administrative tools - services
In services, you will want to get to messenger double click on it, set it to disabled if you do not want it to start anymore. Click on stop to stop the service right now. On disabled, the service will not start anymore, on manual, if an application request the messenger service, then the service will start. Want more info ? |

I'm dealing with this at work all the time now, it's fairly widespread at the moment.

whitin work or from net to your workplace ?
If from net to workplace, then block the port for netbios (i don't remember the port number) Within the workplace, that's a little harder, you could remove the net command, but then you would have to change your logon script, or you could move the net command to another folder, then do a variable on each computer to point to the folder like %windir%. With that, you could call your script correctly and also remove the net command from the path, so it is a little harder to use. |

Umm I would NOT disable messenger. There are many services in windows that rely on messenger to relay error messages and such.
Simply block Port 137 - 139 on your router/firewall. They are sent via RPC and RPC rides on those ports.

Whenever i go to a lan, i always type
"net stop messenger" into CMD when i boot up ![]() at the last lan i went to, this program that changes who the message is from got out, well, needless to say, within the hour one guy was almost completly kicked out of the lan, as messages kept flying in the from "net send workgroup " while someone else was actually sending them ! |
