CAMWORKS for solidworks

Has anyone had any experience with Cam works module for Solidworks? I was wondering if it was worth looking into to do my CAM work with?
Ive heard that it was just as easy to use as Solidworks is.Just wondering if anyone can confirm this.

Also anyone here ever used Dolphin for CAM?Is it as good as people say?
Thanks

No experience with CAMWorks... Have a friend looking into getting me a copy of AlphaCAM - supposed to work right from within the SolidWorks interface. But I'm sort of partial to WorkNC (especially since I have it available to me at work! )

i wouldn't mind that. learning experience (for me) and good software are always desirable.

we've got that, if nothing else!

I use Solidworks exclusively for designing(so simple to use and A1 modelling) and it sure would be great to do the designing and toolpath creation all in the same proggie.
Every second of time cut from design to code stage can definately be utilized in cutting the damn thing considering it takes so long to cut anything in that PITA Cu we all love so much!

Just let us know Utabintarbo........................We're patiantly waiting

BTW, where did You come up with that username?

It's actually an amalgam of several different character's names that I have run across in reading/watching science fiction. I do remember Uta as being a character in a ST:TNG episode.

I've used it for years, but now it sounds a little too much like Osama Bin Laden. Why'd he have to go and f up my handle? Well, Osama will be gone soon, but utabintarbo will live on!

I remember that episode... Uta was a WOMAN carrying a genetically engineered virus, of some clan, who's sole purpose was to infect members of a rival clan, in a final retaliatory effort to eliminate them...

I can see Bin, but not tarbo.

BTT. I've got a sampler of Autocad 12, but I never got around to installing it. I used to have a copy of AutoCad 11, but I didn't use it much. I've used several of the previous versions (some so old that rendering wasn't available!) on and off. It'd be nice to get back into a nice CAD/render program.

Well, on MY planet, Uta can be a male name!

If the Acad is (essentially) free, go for it. If not, there are a lot of much better tools out there. And I have access to most of them!

I think Im just going to stick with Solidworks Plus and then CAMing the designs in Surfcam 2d free.....kind of a pain casue i have to convert the models to 2d DXF's to import into surfcam but atleast I dont have to learn another software package' crazy functions and workings.

I recieved a demo of Solidcam for solidworks and it is confusing as hell !

Can you import models into Mastercam and generate cutter paths and code with that?

I have no experience in this area but mastercam is readily available via peer2peer programs, so it might be worth a shot and some of my time trying to learn it.....

I have Mastercam(friends legal copy) but it seems a bit confusing compared to Surfcam.
Maybe if someone could walk me through the process of importing to generating code, then I would probably use it.
