OK don't laugh - I did the heatercore mods to a heatercore I bought from autozone and now I don't remember which connection was the bigger one - the inlet was 5/8 and the outlet was 3/4. Does it make a difference how you connect your heatercore - specifically do you have to run the hot into the inlet?

Nah, doesn't matter, I'm not even sure why some cars do that and most don't..

Probably to do with what the inlet and outlet connect to more than the core itself - if you have a 5/8" outlet that goes to a 3/4" connector you'd need a hose reducer somewhere, by running it 3/4" from the core you don't

this probably wont make a huge difference, but I would put the larger connection as the outlet. Idea is simple... radiator creates a pressure drop, and lower pressure water flows better through a larger opening. I may be wrong.

It doesn't matter where the bottleneck is. Either way it exists so it doesn't matter.
