hrm I think I know how that would go....Pro/Cooling style:
1) Talk shit about all the other teams' battlebots 2) Get together parts (well most of them) 3) Sit around drinking beer 4) Repeat #1 and #3 ad infitum |

The world's first battlebot with a jury-rigged phase change cooler on all it's silicon bits ... what I don't understand is why somebody doesn't design a ball of diamond-tipped saw blades ... nothing, not even that ladybug thing, could stand up to a ball of whirring death.
For added go, strap on some aerosol cans and flame for a built in flamethrower (extra aggression points).

Launching a liquid is forbidden: so is a flamethrower (but shhht! Don't tell Sgt Bash!) I was thinking about a wheel rim (very strong) with a ball-and-chain attachment that would pop out at a greater distance, proportional with the rotation speed: max damage, at max velocity. Heck, just a carefully balanced spring would do the job. For more power: gas engine! Make that sucka spin wildly: it'll take out a wall... |

There needs to be a real mans battle bots series. Those things on TV are just too weak. Something that would need to be held in the desert, large engines, no holds...... yeah.... until there is only one bot standing.

The only limitation is that it has to be powered by a common small-block engine, to help keep costs down.
I'll call up the networks and get it rolling. Actually there is a competition similar to that, I don't have the links, but I believe that the Navy acadamy has something to do with it. And I do remember seeing a flamethrower once... |

You can do blades with two counter-rotating engines to eliminate torque rotation. Keep it low to the ground, and keep a high-powered battery (it only is running for a few minutes) inside the middle shielded in 1" steel. On top have it rounded to deflect damage, and keep the thing as low to the ground as possible. At about 15 lbs, you could chop away with impunity ... get a running start with the blades whirring and chop the competition into ribbons of steely death!

I think Robot Wars allows FlameThrowers. I don't watch it that often anymore, but I'm pretty sure I saw one the other night when I caught it on. There is a guy that dose a "art" show using Robots with every thing you can think of including Meachine Guns. If I see the link for it again, I'll post it. Big Problem using Saw Blades is getting enough pressure, you end up pushing the other bot before it actual cuts the other bots armor. I'd like to see one use something like a big stun gun and just blow the other bots System board. Tho I'm sure there is a rule about that.

But back to the BattleBots, its so boring to watch, if I were to make a battle bot, I would just rig its battery to explode or something fancy when another bot touches it, so at least other people will be like yeah this kicks ass.

I'd love to make a robot,(we have robot wars in the UK), I have the radio control stuff from a model plane (Tiger moth bi~plane with six foot wingspan
![]() I'd do a 'swinging pick~axe head syringe' type thing, hollow out a pickaxe head and sharpen it up so it will puncture the metal skin of the enemy, it then injects petrol that has had polystyrene soaked into it (napalm) into the enemys 'innards' and procedes to ignite them muwuhaahhahaaa ![]() another thing would be some kind of EMP to fuxor the radio of the enemy bot maybe?(swing the cone out of an 18inch bassbin at it?? ![]() ![]() |

No no no...
Liquid weapons are not allowed. Explosives are not allowed. Interfering with the oponent's frequencies isn't allowed. Electrical discharge weapons are not allowed. Missile weapons are not allowed either (so forget about an armour piercing shell!) phreenet has it right: Robot Wars promotes a big show, as part of the competition: Battlebots doesn't. There's also Robotica here in the US, but I think they were short lived. I like Airspirit's idea (counter rotating blades), but torque can be avoided in many other ways, more simply. Also, the torque can actually be beneficial, to keep the bot level. That reminds me of the poor fellow who had a vertical blade that was so heavy, that the bot looked like it was about to tip over, anytime he turned left or right. ![]() The nastiest one I've seen, is Son of Wyachi: three steel meat cleavers rotating at high speed. The most clever, was DrillZilla, a bot with a fast moving no-wheels mechanism (which increases your weight limitation). The most exotic, was a long snake-like thing, but I've never seen it in action. |

it's a shame you can't use lasers!
Then y'all have something to use all the cooling geat on. (of course powering a someodd mW laser would be a feat on it's own..)
