Well, I decided to try and do my cooling internally in my pc-60 and my 6x7x2 Escort core wasn't going to fit. I ordered a core for a Chevy LUV Truck its 5-5/8x4-3/4x2. Here's a few pics for ya:
![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see, it's built different than a standard core, its got flat tubes and fins. I was worried it would be like that, but couldn't tell for sure from pics I've been able to find. I hope it doesn't effect cooling too much. The pic with the fan on looks like the fan is wider but its not, its almost a perfect fit. A shroud will be made from plexiglass. I was planning on putting it in the top of the case, but on closer look, I think I might be able to just squeeze it in the front. I'll haveta lose the bottom HD cage and the front USB ports but looks like that will be the way I'll go. More pics as I make updates. Any of you guys have experience with this core or ones built the same way? peace. unloaded |

I p0sted it a long time ago but I pulled this 1975 Chevy Luv heater core out of the scrap yard for 9$ along with a few others.
This is the one I am currently using: It has a very similar fin pattern. The problem I have with it is it is hard to get air through it. The only way I could get it reasonable was to make a acrylic adapter like shown and have the air sucked through (note there is a big hole cut in the bottom of the case below the rad). Trying to push it through wasn't as effective. I got a 120mm Delta 125CFM fan on it now and not much air gets through it. Still seems to do all right though |

Here's where I wanna mount it:
![]() Only problem is a bit of a clearance issue, as seen here I'm about 1/4" short of needed space: ![]() I'll either cap the tubes and install barbs like this: ![]() Or cut the tubes off flush and plug them and install the barbs into the side of tank like this: ![]() It's gonna be a tighter fit than I thought, but I'll get it in there. It would easily fit in the top of my case, but I'm kinda set on having it in lower front. Also without the 3-1/2" cages I could mount it vertically in lower front, but I'm gonna have 2 raid arrays plus a few other HD's so I'll be needing the cage with the bay covers. After today I have the rest of the week off work, seem to have all my pieces, so hopefully I'll finally get my setup done. More pics as I go. peace. unloaded |

Mount them on the side (cap off the old holes), there's no point adding 90deg bends if you can get away without them!...
I'd use the original tube as well, it's got a much better inner diametre size than a 1/2inch barb!... If you're sold on the idea of barbs though, I'd use a 3/8BSP brass nut to solder onto the rad, then use large 5/8barbs (14mm inner, you can get 14mm ones with a 11.5mm inner diam' as well), they're perfect for zero flow restriction with 13mm inner silicone/PVC tubing... That's a nice size rad, I hope you're gonna make a neat slimline cowl/shroud for it?, to get tjhe most out of it ![]() |
