Default new 3dmark '03 in a couple of hours

check here
http://service.futuremark.com/counter.jsp

not that i am a 3dmark b**** but after 2 years of testing our repaired pc's at work looking at the same stoopid rocket shooting SUV'z and fishermen in green pastures. time for a change.

like with the max paine ripoff scenes, maybe some doom teasers inside. we will know after the final countdown...

Yeah it's the final countdown to their web server's *own* doom ! Or doomsday should i say..
They'd better have prepared a lot of mirrors, or it will be a magnified slashdot effect

By my rough estimate, it'll be available at 10pm tonight, central time.

The counter will reach zero at approximately 30 seconds past 12 noon CST. As long as the rate of decrement stays constant.

i thk they prolly have a load of mirrors ready to pop up at the same time. it would be totally unreal, they would be in need of 10000x current bandwith in the first hours.

let their servers rest in peace... (and the sysadmins as well)

I dont give that much credit to benchmarks (specially online ones). For the simple reason that i've seen too many bogus scores that dont reflect the true potential of the pc they were made.

Sure, i'll look at them , probably take a few notes, but that's as far as i go.

I am in utter disbelife this benchmark is to popular that 450,000 people (and thats the one's that can connect!) are trying to download this all at once. What is even more striking (or should I say disapointing) is the fact that many people spend thousands of $'s to get a high score that will be beat tomorrow by someone else. Pelt this, pelts that, OC this, OC that, and yet they do not even have ONE game installed on that computer! WTF is up with that? Is this all ego, my score is 50 points higher so that means my dick is 5% bigger!!! (note actual variables maybe different)

And with that said it took 4hrs for me to download it last night with a excellent cable connection. Got on this morning and tried installing it only to find I need DX9. Downloaded DX9 and then I had to go to work (where I am at now).

I just wanted to see what my Radeon 32DDR could do. Might get a cool score of 500 or so. Which in 3DMark terms that means my dick is real small right? I guess I can go buy a Radeon 9700 and grow a few inches ah?

This very system that scored 80 plays UT2003 pretty well at 800x600. Pretty smooth and the graphics are still pretty good. Very playable. Still considering dropping some $'s for a Radeon 8500 though (if I can find one still). Would like to play in 1024x768 even if it is low details. Details don't bother me to much as if I stand around and look at the sceanery my ass is fraged! Hate to go Nvidia but the GF4 440MX 128meg card is dirt cheap to. WOnder how those work with UT2003.

But i made my point. 3dmark is a crappy benchmark.

For what i've seen, a 9500 pro is the best "value per buck" out there. Goes up to head with a ti4600 and costs alot less.

With a 8500 you could alyway give it a new bios and say "i've got a 9100" .

Dont like those gf4mx, they're like a gf2mx on steroids. Still , they are dirty cheap, but you get what you pay .
