I think the KT7E was like the K7S5A... but there weren't enough people to realize it

The K7S5A is highly acclaimed for its ultra low price and ability (albeit with an unofficial BIOS) to support FSB adjustments and all the new CPUs, despite being so old. Furthermore, its performance is not too shabby. LONG ago, I bought a KT7E... I'm actually typing on this PC right now.
It used to have a duron 600 overclocked to 1 ghz. So here's the situation.
On my school PC (8K5A2+), I used to have an old Athlon XP 1700 (the first stepping, palomino, etc). My roommate had a Micron PC w/ a 1.4 ghz Athlon (t-bird). I bought a TbredB 1700 and gave him my old CPU, citing that the 66 mhz more increase and the Athlon XP enhancements would make it a painless, and MAYBE noticeably faster, upgrade. I asked for the previous 1.4 ghz T-bird in exchange.
So i'm happy as for $50, I got my computer up to 10x200. He's happy as his Micron PC looks the same and feels the same but his dorky roommate (AKA me) claims that it now has funny things like data prefetch and a little more clockspeed. I just got happier about my $50 purchase though.
I came home, swapped out the duron 600 out of my KT7E. I popped in the 1.4 ghz t-bird and it worked after a BIOS update. It's right now running at 1.6 ghz!

. I'm sure it could still go a bit higher too! I recently upgraded to 512mb memory (only PC133, but fast timings).
All i'm saying is that i'm quite happy with this motherboard. I'm getting very solid performance (for web browsing, word processing, and minimal gaming) out of a motherboard that came out in late 2000! Enough of my rambling.... I'm going to try and o/c a bit higher. Heat isn't a problem as this is in my dual heatercore machine

134x12 is this machine's top speed. Eh not too bad considering that this motherboard was never officially certified for totally sweet "next gen" features like "133 mhz FSB"

I own a K7S5A. I think the board is great for low end computing. It is cheap, and you can find hacked bios' from HoneyX out there that are stable. The one problem I have is using the onboard sound at clock speeds of 143/143 and 150/150 (200)+)on my 1700+. The sound simply cuts off after a couple of hours, and requires a reboot to get it back.
Airspirit (God bless him) helped me out alot on figuring out some of the problems with this setup. I was warned that the overclocking of this board to 150/150 leads to data degredation and a soon "non-booting" os. I started getting boot errors the other day, after running at this speed for a bit. I now am bumping it back down after only getting minimal benchmark increases from this overclock.
I could have easily cooled a higher clocked chip at higher settings. HOWEVER the board will not allow for higher voltage increases, so the chip wont boot. I had to reset my cmos to get the board to boot up, and reset back to a slower speed.

For the price and for your parents. This is one GREAT board for having everything onboard, and low problems. It isn't however suitable for overclocking. The K7S5A pro boards shipped mostly with NO HOLES for mounting your blocks. They are on clearance at Fry's and online if you want a good cheap board. They are fixing the hole problem as we speak.

Kevin.. are you sure thats not 150X11? Thats 1650 vs 1608. Mine posted at 1.65 mhz. Settings 150 150 133 133

I have a KT7E in my research lab running a TBird 1.33. It seems just a bit on the flaky side though. It wasnt a bad budget board for sure though. The ECS's main feature was the integrated LAN and excellent performance with SDR. Oh and NOT being a Via chipset

I got a K7S5A. It is running my UT2003 server. XP1600+ stock 256megs Crucial PC133. Server been up non stop for about 2 weeks now 24/7. Running WinME to boot.... Good stable board if you tone down the mem timmings a bit. Otherwise nothing but random reboots. Paid $35 for it a NewEgg.com in the refurb section. Also bought a (5th) Epox 8K7A+ for $35 on the same order!. Would have rather got 2 8K7A+'s but I had gobs of PC133 to be used and didn't feel like dropping $60 (at the time) for 128megs PC2100 DDR. Nothing good or bad to say about it.

I need a good proggy to read the mobo sensor from the cpu. I d/l hwmonitor, and it isnt reading it correctly. Why you ask.. well.. flashing from 2C, 14C, 88C Can anyone help me? Oh, and yes I chaged the hw config to thermistor, diode, transistor. I guess I don't know enough about how this board works and the manual is horrible as far as that info goes.
I have searched everywhere.. and I figure that if some of you guys have one of these, then tell me what you use and settings..

It can be a PITA to setup for the first time but once you get it set it is ok. Next time you start it up get into the bios and see what the temps read in there. If they look way out of wack maybe the sensors are messed up.

Also, read the forums at www.ocworkbench.com for ECS. The place is just FULL of K7S5A lovers. You should maybe get a more educated answer there.
