Default Yet another pump question.

Ok I have gotten a little more funding so I can hopefully complete my project soon. Here is the project thread: http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/sho...&threadid=5543

The last pump I had decided on was the Iwaki 20RZ (Japanese version), although I have heard that the Velocity T Series of pumps are quiter. My main concern is that Iwaki has 5/8" Hose barb connections, and the T2 that I want has 3/4" male NPT connectors. I was thinking that if the T2 is designed for a larger bore system thanthe pressure might hurt the pump after a while, or worse yet cause the pump to operate at a higher DB level.

So my question is what pump would you use if you wanted performance for the below setup ( with possibly a few more waterblocks in the future), while keeping noise from pump at its lowest possible DB?

Iwaki 20RZ ( http://www.marinedepot.com/a_pu_iwaki_info.asp?CartId= )

Custom Sea Velocity T2 ( http://www.customsealife.com/NewFiles/velocity.html )

Radiators: Two Fedco 2-617 Heatercores http://thengc.net/images/watercooled...sanding_06.jpg [Purchased]
Custom reservoir with 1/2" NPT female threads for 5/8" Barbs
Quick Disconnects: 5/8" Nominal flow CPC Valved shutoffs http://www.colder.com/fl_series.cfm [Purchased]
Waterblocks:
1 CPU Waterblock ( http://jpiperformance.com/water_blocks.htm )
1 GPU Waterblock ( http://www.dangerden.com/mall/chipset.asp )
1 NB Waterblock ( DD Danger Den Z-Chip Block )
Fans: Six 120X25mm Aluminum Fans http://jab-tech.com/120mm_aluminum_...rome_79cfm.html

Approximate Tubing lengths:
5/8" Tubing: 2-2.5'
1/2" Tubing: 1.5-2.5'

# of 90 degree turns:
3/4" Schedule40 Pipe: 4 (on each side of quick disconnects)

T's:
1/2" Copper T's: 2 (on inlet and outlet of radiators)

Y's:
1/2" Hose adapter Y (after CPU block)

Anyone care to estimate the Head that will give me, and the resultant expected flow with the two pumps we are comparing?

I really would try to avoid the Velocity pumps. Too much power draw/heat, and it will be an overly significant proportion of the heat which your radiators have to deal with. The MD-20RZ would be the better choice of those two, and I'd hazard a guess that the MD-15R would also be better again, just in terms of reducing pump heat. I know you're using dual radiators, but as a stab in the dark, you'd be looking at around 6 to 7lpm with the MD-15R, and 7-8lpm with the MD-20RZ, and for the flow rate increase between the two pumps and the resulting impact that has on the various block's performance, the extra heat of the MD-20RZ would probably overwhelm that "block benefit", and you'd end up cooling about the same, but stuck with a pump draws draws more power and costs you more.

I'm sorry to keep saying it, but it really has hit home to me that the "more is better" with pumps simply is a red herring.

Thanks for the advise, how is the noise level on the MD15R? Ccompared to my Eheim1250 I have now?

Thanks,

BrianW

nikhsub1 (Scott) will be able to answer that one for you.

I have the MD-30RZ and it has a low-level turbine whine to it. A bit like a high-speed 40mm chipset fan, but quieter.

I just ordered the MD-15RLT Japanese Motor version. Thanks for the advise.

You won't be disappointed Brian.

You may look at your flow rates and think "Gee, what if I could get to 10lpm?", but it's a black, black road to go down.
