Now, with the chance of sounding like a road-serialkiller-gay i'm just wondering if there is anyone planning to do a 50-state all american roadtrip within the next 10 years? Been planning a roadtrip through all the 50 states with a friend of mine since we was 10years old and even though it will take some years more, it would be fun to check out if anyone else is planning and it would be fun to do the trip with the company of a stranger to.

Been there, done that, and regretted much of it. Of course, I was going for speed, and it was broken into a couple different odysseys with a few states missed, but for the most part you could do a regional roundup with the same effect. After all, there is a reason many people don't go to Wyoming, North Dakota, Nevada (except for the Vegas part), or many other states.

Do what I did: ski in Colorado one day, then visit Utah's desert/National Parks the next

There's a 100 mile long trail that runs through the canyons in Utah, but you'll have to rent a jeep

Otherwise, if you're into it, visit Hollywood, or New York. If you're in the beach scene, you're looking at Florida, or Myrtle beach (North Carolina?).

If you're into odd things, go see the baseball field in the middle of Ohio...

Hehe, well, have you watched the Rules Of Attraction with James Van Der Beek? There is a fun part about a guy doing Europe and he is high during the whole time, both a fun idea and a cool bit of the movie. Anyway, if you where to give a ~ price on motells throughout the USA, what do you have to pay for a room for 2? Cause even though gas is cheap in america, it's much more expensive than Asia

Depending, you are looking from $15-$90 per night for the cheapest dive in the area. In rural areas such as North Dakota, Wyoming, or other assorted BFEs, the cost is extremely cheap. Anywhere within about 50 miles of a decent sized town, however, will be much more expensive. Any hotel IN a larger town/city will be expensive to ridiculously expensive, where they will probably charge you extra for the cockroach infestation. If you are near a landmark/cultural center, expect to be anally raped as part of your fee. An example is in Janestown, Wisconsin, you can get a double room for $19 at the Knight's Inn, or whatever tha fugg it's called. In Providence, RI, the cheapest room you can get ANYWHERE will run you $80 (8 miles out of town), in Seattle, WA, you are looking at around $60 if you go way out into the suburbs, and if you happen to stay in a skiing area, don't be surprised to share a room four-way for a combined price of $350 a night. Hotels are fscking expensive ... I only use them when necessary, preferring to camp in my car every other night to save cash.

Myrtle beach is in South Carolina, near Charleston.

I've done the drive from South Carolina to Massachusetts a dozen times or more. I-95 is both a friend and enemy. So is I-81.

I'd be pretty helpful to have along for an east coast trip - I've driven through Boston, Hartford, NYC, Washington D.C., Baltimore (MD), Richmond, Roanoke (VA), Raleigh, Charlotte (NC), Greenville, Charleston (SC), Athens, Atlanta, and Savannah (GA).

I'd love to do a roadtrip at some point, and it would be great to travel with a foreigner or two. Might give me an added sense of purpose.

Problem though: The continental USA (48 states) is about 3000 miles long and 1000 miles wide. Driving through all 50 states would require a drive of around 10,000 - 30,000 miles. That'll take one or two *months*. Add to that the time required in engaging in events every day or two - I'm sure you'd want to spend *at least* two days in New York City, for example - and you're looking at a road trip that would last a year or more.

Too big, too much. Even *I* would OD on that much America, and I *live here*.

As for hotels/motels, depends on what you want. If I'm feeling stylish, I go to nice hotels in small cities when I travel for about $100 a night. If I'm living on the cheap, I'll go to motels for about $50 a night.

Double bed rooms usually aren't much more expensive than the single-bed rooms.

Plan on spending $60/night for the small-town motels and $100/night for the medium-sized cities. Sleep at least an hour away from major cities - a decent hotel anywhere near NYC will set you back *at least* $300 a night, but you'd never get a room without a reservation there anyway. Too many people.

Camping out in your car gets old. Fast.

Gas will cost you, depending on how good your car, around $7 every 100 miles.

Depending on how well you plan to eat, look at $5-$10 per meal, at least. If you plan to go for a nice seafood dinner right here in Boston, though, think closer to $40-$50. Fisherman's platter at Legal Sea Foods. Highly reccommended.

As for driving to Alaska and Hawaii - good luck with that.

Anyway, my advice is to pick specific cities you'd want to visit - preferably in one area of the country - and pick specific events in those cities you'd want to attend, landmarks you'd want to see, etc. Easier to do things by cities rather than states, in my opinion.

if you want to see baseball stadiums, go to Oriole Park at Camden Yards. EVERY SINGLE stadium built after Camden Yards is based off of it. It is a nice stadium, but sucky baseball team

I always hated Baltimore. The stadium IS nice tho and there is a decent aquarium nearby as well. Fell's Point has some good bars. Overall though I felt Baltimore is lagging behind the rest of the mid-Atlantic in the whole urban renewal thing.

Annapolis on the other hand I really enjoyed visiting. DC and NYC and Philadelphia as well. I am from the south, but I think the east coast is the region that suits me best.

Now I live in midwestern Canada. I am with airspirit that N Dakota can be skipped

Nah. I've visited him 3 times now, even crashed on his couch, and never any psychoses. I can think of another webmaster who might have 'roid rages, but around here we are pretty laid back

I used to take thiese a few times a month back a handful of years ago... stopped because it just burned up the car I had at the time

never did a county wide one, but did do road trips that were like 18 hours of driving in one day.. ( drove to northern New York like that once)

They are fun, but I think if I did a "road trip" now it would be part of something a lil more competative... like the One Lap of America road rally. (what the Cannon Ball run has evolved into)

edit: and Yes there is no Psycho issues in Madison with Joe... Just good beer loving americans here
