Default TEC cooling TEC?

I was wondering. If I had, say, two 65 W 12 V TEC's (just speculation, I don't actually have any). If I put one ontop of the other (to cool the hot side of the 1st one), would it work? Like this:

._________.
|_________|....<--- TEC 1
|_________|....<--- TEC 2

I read somewhere that if you get the hot side too cold, it stops performing well (or even at all) but I don't know.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Stacked pelts can work, but only for very low heatloads. Not much use for any PC cooling purpose.

Pelts do become substantially less effective at lower hotside temperatures, although they will continue to work well below any temperature you are likely to get them to.

Agreed that the change is lower per pelt in the stack, the lower combined temp will be greater. You may only get a 10C difference when using a second TEC that is stacked vs a single. So unless you have some AWSOME powersupply and want 10-30C change then I would advise to just get a bigger watt single.

single specs
stacked tech specs

but, I could be reading these charts wrong..

If you really want to stack two pelts make sure that the bottom one is of a lower rating than the one on top e.g. A 100 W pelt on top of a 25 W pelt. This works best to cool one small surface e.g. the 100 W pelt is 40 mm x 40 mm and the 25 what pelt is 10 mm x 10 mm. Get the idea the more pelt’s you stack the smaller W and physical size the next T.E.C in the stage should be. Like this have a look …

I have two agree winewood, get a stronger wattage pelt for CPU cooling.

That looks amazing. What kind of cooling could you expect from stacked Pelts like that?

I would think it logical to assume -10C to total initial pelt per stack. ..?

So you're saying -50 C w/ that setup? That would be pretty damn cool.

Yeah... it would be cool, but it wouldn't cool any kind of heat load. It would just be good for refrigerating something, not much more than that. Something small, to boot.

course.. how small is a core? If the resulting last TEC is core size, then you may have something... Anyone ever bought one of these things?

Wouldn't work winewood... the last TEC would be about 18W or 25W.... would get overloaded and act as an insulator very quickly.

I agree that the last one would get overloaded. However, with the movement of heat away from the 1st pelt to the last, that makes the 1st pelt more efficient overall, and lowers the hot side lower than it would be in a single config. Therefore the 1st pelt (the one touching your heat source) would be more efficient. I do know that a stacked pelt is more efficient in reference to heat removal than a non as it has a greater delta T. Given it doesn't cover the space of the larger one, if your heat source is small, it shouldn't matter. If the heat source is larger, I agree that it may not be benificial to use one.
I was using the links in my above post to justify this understanding, providing you pick a stacked pelt with surface area greater than your core. It's not that I am arguing against you, but asking you to be more explainitory as to why the 1st pelt would be less efficient even if the 3-4th pelt may be overloaded.

im sure you can take a 80w tec and put a 226w on top of that to cool a gpu, but thats it really. and there alone your looking at on hevey as* sink for just a 30-40w gpu
