Has anyone heard anything about the new Zalman WB?
Zalman WB at FrozenCPU Looks kinda weird. I wonder how well it works. It's pretty cheap, too. Are there any good performing blocks that come with fittings for AMD and P4? Last edited by cbone; 06-10-2003 at 01:16 PM. |

that block might perform decently but i wouldnt expect it to be really good.
the SlitEdge from BeCooling comes with both AMD and P4 hole mounts. not much has been said a/b this block but it has the second best C/W rating after the WhiteWater on overclockers.com. |

49 dollars is pretty cheap? Maybe compared to a whitewater.

Exact same principles in copper core design as the Innovatek Rev3 blocks and the WetandChillyChips CPU Block... not for the overclocker, but fine for someone looking for silence at stock or mildly oc'd speeds and taking the watercooling approach. All it has to do is keep the CPU below 60 degrees at the end of the day according to AMDs specs etc...
It claims it helps silence, doesn't claim to offer brilliant performance. Just take it as advertised *shrugs* |

The only problem with this Zalman WB is that It can't be mounted on a Socket A cpu, Just socket 478 & socket 754 (Opteron), Other than that It sure looks nice, I just wish Zalman had made this compatible with socket 462 though. Otherwise I'll just stick with Danger Den (Maze3 SHD) or something like that.
![]() Say anyone know which type of fittings are better - Brass, Chrome or Polypropylene?

they're all pretty much the same. but some are better then others at different applications. if you use a lexan top then its better to use polyprolene because it strains the lexan less and not as easy to crack. with a copper top brass or chrome are good and make it have a professional look. if you use annodized aluminum then chrome is better then brass because brass is a copper alloy and if the threading is chipped when you insert the brass barb then corrosion will occur.

BTW, for those into history, LEXAN is 50 years old now!
Invented in 1953, at a General Electric lab by Daniel Fox, 21 billion pounds of it have since been sold. (source: Popular Mechanics, July 2003 issue) |

Anyway my point stands. Its significantly more expensive then better blocks. It also doesn't even fit socket A making it less compatable as well. Combine that with 3/8 fittings and aluminium construction and you get a pretty big "Meh" IMO. |

Me I'm looking at either the Maze3 SHD, the Maze4 SHD (When It comes out) or the Gemini Cool (case-mod.com),
The Last one is a High Volume CPU Cooler (Requires at least a 200Gph pump). ![]() Click on the Above Image for a Larger Image.

case-mod is having a nice sale on all GeminiCool waterblocks. you should probably pick up the Mega Tsunami for only $25.

I would, But I'm limited to 1/2" OD - 3/8" ID Tubing. I'll have settle for what's compatible with My Tubing and My pump, It's a 200Gph pump.
![]() Edit: I didn't see any Mega Tsunami water blocks, On sale or otherwise, they must be out of them. The Tsunami water blocks are there and I may get one for My cpu and GF4 card, The chipset blocks will just have to wait though. ![]()
