I have a BIX2 which I am debating whether or not to build an air duct to bring fresh air in from the front case panel. The BIX is setup on the top of a lian li mid-tower case (PC-7) w/ 2x120mm fans pulling air out.
As I watercool my cpu/nb/gpu, case temps are not too bad, around 3-5C above ambient but I was wondering if there would be a significant improvement by ducting fresh air to thru the radiator. I was thinking of a simple design (crude paint below...) made out of extra plexiglass I have. Mod a CD drive cover(s) with a filter for the duct intake. |

why not just turn the fans, so it suck cool air from the top straight into the case, through the rads...

wouldn't that defeat the benefits of passing cooler air thru the radiator? I don't know the exact science here, but I would think common sense would say that the hotter case temps will result in more work for the watercooling rig to get rid of? why introduce more heat when you can isolate/eliminate it?
edit: I presume you mean blowing air thru the radiator from the top straight into the PC case (without a duct blowing air out). another issue with that is other than the 2x12cm rad blowhole fans, there are only 1x80mm rear fan and 1x80 PSU fan exhausting air out of the case (2x80mm intake fans up front). |
