What would you estimate the cost of one of these blocks at? Around 200$? You could manufacture these, charge 300$ for them, and I can guarantee you people would still buy them, even if they only beat the standard Cascade design by a hair.

I'm not really aiming to make these in mass, and nor could I really afford to have such blocks sitting around as it's a substantial chunk of "inventory" investment. If people want one, they should contact me. Lead time would be around 6 weeks from placing a deposit (to cover the cost of the silver) to having a finished silver block sent, but I would only do that if I got at least 4 or more people seriously interested. |

LOL!, I can see right up your nose!
![]() How much softer than Cu is silver? Did you have to alter the design any to make it strong enough not to squish?... |

However, having said that, I didn't need to alter the design. The honeycomb pattern between the cups is a very strong structure. I've pulled the block off a number of times now and inspected it after some pretty dramatic mounting pressures (about thrice the AMD recommend mounting pressure) and I've not seen any sign of "squishing" or "indentation" of the die into the base-plate. |

Cool!, I was thinking more about the wall thickness, as the honeycomb pattern is more of a 'sideways load' strenght is'nt it? I 'spose it's more of a 'wall to cup area' ratio that's important? but if it holds, it holds!...
Kudos to you on yet another peak of the unpeakable!! ![]() |

A very fine looking block you have there Cathar, very sharp indeed!
You mentioned making some minor alterations to allow for the use of silver. Did these alterations change the flow rate at all? If yes, how large a increase or decrease? What differances in temps are you seeing in tests? Noticable increases in O/C of your system that has been in use with the copper Cascade? |

Hardly wasted cash my friend.
These blocks (all Cascades) performe at a level above all cheaper & lesser blocks. Quality costs! It always has and always will. You can't buy a BMW for the same price as a Chevy for the exact same reason. The Silver Cascade offers added performance, just as the BMW offers a better ride. If you look to some of the German sites you'll find silver blocks that are ONLY for the looks, as they can't match the performance of the copper Cascade. Or the copper White Water, in many cases. |

@ Cathar: Excellent work as always! If you do a GPU block, with both barbs coming out the side and suitable for a Radeon 9800 256Mb, then I'll be your first customer!

^^ I'd bet a pure silver GPU block would be awesome too.

Well I'm on the waiting list for the GPU block.
Those deeply interested in one should be sending in a e-mail. Just keep in mind it will be a while I'd guess before it's ready. Cathar has only so much time, and right now it's going to the Cascade CPU block. But yes, a silver GPU would be a nice match for the SS Cascade. ![]() |

I have even less time than I used to. My real job is pounding me hard, I've got some horrible flu that's left me unmotivated and as weak as a kitten for the last 5 days, and then I have to catch up on my real job again.
Anyone interested in a part-time/casual job at my house? I either need to clone myself, or slow down. Lately it's been the latter. |

i dont understand.... a bmw is a big difference to a mazda for example, but even a 5 degree difference in the heat of the cpu surly isnt worth the extra 100 or so ?
i suppose its all got to do with priorities - meaning yall got too much money and time on your hands lol ![]()

sure 100$ is worth 5 degrees, when you make 200,000 a year
BUT, lets say you spend 70$ on a decent waterblock, youre only paying about $30 more for that 5 degrees (well worth it in my book) |

What is it you're looking for? The entire world to agree with your point of view? People spend their money how they see fit, and you can be sure that they don't feel the compulsion to check with you as their financial advisor. The same of thing is often said of people who buy the latest video card, the latest CPU or motherboard. The same can also be said of people who "hot rod" their cars. It's very similar. Almost everyone on the planet has a hobby of some kind that they will pour near irrational amounts of money into, because it is the hobby itself that rewards the individual, not the possessions or the amount of money spent on an item. Everyone's perception of worth and value is unique to that individual. It may not make sense to you, but they're also not asking you to understand, at least not with as much effort as you seem to be pouring into convincing yourself that you're right and others are wrong. Everyone doesn't have to share your opinion. |

I think the practicality of this is best to go into a thread of it's own.
