Looks like a glorified Maze 4. Never fails to amaze me the work people will put into something to make it so nice and fancy only to rarely see it buried in the computer case. Even with a Window unless you put the case where you can always look into the window, but I would rather the monitor be in front of my face.

I never really did get the whole concept of making you computer look leet. Your the only one that see's it on a daily basis. Even for laners. Wouldn't you rather be judged on how good you are at the game instead of how leet your computer looks? Hummm, that concept can apply to many many other things to I guess. Same concept Joe used in removing the post count from view. We are all hypocritical in our own ways.

No it's not gold. It's polished brass. Very well polished i must say.

As far as i could understand (and my spanish is limited and the author didnt go into much detail ) :

The brass parts are welded to the copper base.
The top is acrylic with some sort of sealant.
The center is made with a thin radial saw. Thus the arcs.

The socket retention isn't very hard.

Interesting at least, the use of a radial saw to make it.

Actually the brass , as the author stated, was used to reduce a bit the weight of the block .

The middle is acrylic with an o-ring and the retention mechanism ... looks like more to distribuit pressure.

The rest... well, if we can make it look nice, without compromising the effectiveness, then why not ?

Personally i wouldnt by a block for the looks. I dont even have windows in my case. And have no intention of having. I'm not a big fan of the bling bling case mod.

It is actually rather awsome. But yet over done. It's just a water block after all. That's a lot of excellent work that IMO could be spent on things that make more of a difference. But whatever to each their own. That is some seriously excellent work.

He says that performance is not a big concern as in his experience any reasonable design performs almost the same. His initial goal was an easy manufacture, which obviously was not accomplished

He has made a lot of awesome metal work in blocks, using only a drill press and hand files. The real goal of such a great job is not having a leet system, but the pleasure of making it.

I havn't made any blocks, but the same is true in designing and building a system to meet your goals, or to create the system to fit the pic in your mind.

That is a very nice homemade block. The body of the the block would only take minutes to make with a hole saw, and drillpress vise IMO. The way he finished it off with all polished metal and the use of the socket clips could be changed. If he had used flat square copper stock, a poly top using the mobo mount holes would not have been as great of an effort if anyone wanted to use his concept to make their own block. Also the pattern could have been shifted for the central focal point to be where the pins were formed by the cut pattern. Personal satisfaction is indeed one reason someone makes their own blocks because lets face it, $30 or $40 is all it takes to go buy something redimade that's functional.
