Default Portable CD players

Right now i have a Panasonic cd player i got back in 1999 or so, it's still working fine but i think it's time for an upgrade. The problem is, when the bass boost isn't on, it's sounds like theres no bass AT ALL, then when you turn the bass boost on, you can only turn the volume up to about 7 or 8 or it will distort badly.

Can anyone recommend a CD player with great sound quality ? I just want something that doesn't distort at full volume and has enough bass.

I'm using JVC studio style headphones, i can hook these to my computer, crank the volume with the bass up and I get NO distortion. I also have DFX for Winamp with the bass turned up, so it's not my headphones.

my guess is maybe it's just not got the power to drive the earphones with the bass boost on above those volume levels.

i used to have i think a phillips cd player with 45sec esp. was a pretty nice unit, no problems here. don't remember where i put it tho.

personally, i'd probably opt to go with the mp3 players instead. much smaller, makes portability a lot nicer.

Honestly, i had a portable cd player , and a bought a MD player a couple of years back, along with a Live! platinum for the extra optical outputs.

I know it takes time to record, but it's great and fits in just about any pocket .

Currently i'd go for a mp3 player. There's a few dirty cheap that read a 8cm cd's (small ones) and read mp3. You can get one for under 80 bucks. And most cdrw record those 8cm cd's.

It's something to consider, imo, knowing that the HD versions are still very expensive.
