I've got 3 potted 120WATT TECs I want to use to cool with, and after looking around a bit I was wondering if the following setup would work, and if anyone else has tried successfully using a pryamid type stack. I think that the two 120's would be able to dissipate both the CPU and the other 120, but I haven't done the math yet, and since the 120 is only touching 1/2 of each of the other 120's I'm a little skeptical. I'll try it anyways, with just a test block, but I just wanted to check and see if anyone had already tried it.

Ji Kuang (aka LardArse and Miss_Man) was last seen with a similar set up , 2x172w,1x65, 1x80, http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/sho...?threadid=3293
Search of this forum (Miss_Man) and both OC's and OC(AU) under LardArse will produce some good TEC work |

With regards to there being an overlap between the TEC on it's own and the the two TEC's above, I would have thought it wise to use an copper coldplate between the two layers, with the whole assembly insulated from the outside with neoprene foam.

I've decided on this setup. I'm in the process of getting my DIY cnc setup, it's a modified drill-press, so it'll take me a few months to update this, but fear not I will be back sooner or later.

The way I had it set up was 2 TECs side by side with a copper plate inbetween them and the underlying single TEC and another copper plate under it (on top of the CPU). I don't know if the AMOUNT of heat made the pyramid worse or if the DISTANCE the heat had to travel through the pyramid was the problem. |

The resistance of all the copper in the setup shouldn't be much more than using your tipical(sp?) WB/TEC setup, I'll only be adding a 1/4in block between the TEC's to provide a good distrabution of heat from the single TEC on the bottom. I also plan on testing it quite a bit once I get everything setup and running, but like I said that could take a while. If you guys are interested in what steps I've taken, and will have to take, to turn a cheap Ryobi 10in Drill Press into a 5-axis cnc setup, I will be more than happy to add that to this thread. I've got a camera and could do a little step-by-step guide, I guess. I haven't spent that much on parts and materials yet, and don't plan to.
Ryobi 10in Drill-Press: 99$ 4x17 std Stepper Motors: 160$ Steel stock: 20$ The rest of my money has been spent on pegboard for my driver curcuits and interfaces, wiring, and screws and other mounting hardware. I haven't gotten far with getting the motors and tracks setup, I'm still planning, learning and putzing around. Laterz |
