Sam what he is saying is that his early 2000v2
Quote:
Software Hardware Serial# BIOS
2.0.279 2.0.0 39978 2.0.252
would NOT format past 6 gig. It wasn't till he upgrade to v3 that it would.

I know there was a format change to the drive, but it was between v1 and 2 OS so I thought.

Go for it, if you want to copy the pictures to your server you can (for long term sake) but if your bandwidth bill is too high i have more than enough to cope on my account.

Yeah the upshot of it is:

How to upgrade a Snap 2000 server.

1. make sure you are running V3, if not upgrade
2. insert any hard drvie in any order set to master
3. use the co de format thingy to zap one at a time.
4 done

You will lose data with this method. But since you should back up before any server change, doing it this way then copying the stuff back is simpler then trying to switch to jbod and back to mirror etc.

To upgrade you will need either the CD that came with V3 snap or Snap Assist.exe and the upgrade data.

Hmmmm, sorta, but not quite. There is a 70715023 board (used in both 2000 and 4000) and a 70715039 board used in the 4000. So, used like a 4000, yes. Same as a 4000, no. Sometimes... But only on tuesday and when the moon is full... In other words, depends on the model.

Snap will tell you that they use common hardware to save on inventory and different software. This why the list models as the number of drives 1,2,4,12?

Did they ever bastardize any of the boards so that they couldn't be converted, i.e. put a crippled 4000 board in a 2000? I understand that the config of the board is slightly different in that the BIOS has a different model identifier in it, but did they ever do anything above and beyond that to cripple the board?

And I thought that certain versions of the 2000 (early versions) only had 1 IDE header, not two like the 4000...

The reason I said a 2200.

The BIOS flag can be changed.

re3dyb0y your not loosing it, there were a couple that converted their 2200 into a 4000's.

Guess it would help if I read things correctly...thought you were talking about a 2000.

However, that answers my other question as well. Snap, Quantum, or whoever never did anything to cripple the hardware from one snap version to the next, like take out an IDE header or something of that nature. Intetresting...

I think it was me who said 2000 when I was showing there is a 4000 board that is not listed for a 2000/2200. I only said 2000 (even tho I agree with Dave) because that is what is listed on the various parts I have seen listed. My apologies for getting you all confused.
