find out what your vibration is yet JAY?

U might try putting some 10 w 30 motor oil in yolur spindle bearings if U can. mine got a little noisey and it cleared it right up

Use a injection needle, and have the spindle spinning slow, it almost sucks the opil into the bearings.

No I havn't. I messed it up a while back when I was milling that Copper circular block. The bit broke and bound up. In turn that tightened my end mill holder so freekin tight it will not come off(it is a threaded one that screws on). In my attemps I think I through off the balance of the endmill holder trying to break it free. I noticed my end mills don't fit so well anymore either.
I think that is the problem. I just can't get it off without messing up the rest of the spindal though as it will take a couple sets of vise grips and a hammer!!! It is really on there. And in order to use my collets I need to take that endmill holder off so I have access to the center shaft so i can use the lead screw.

doesnt your spindle use the double wrench setup, one larger wrench to hold the spindle while another wrench unscrews the nut that holds the endmill and small collet into the spindle bore?

Yes, but in addition to that there is a screw on 3/8" endmill holder that threads on where the collets usually go. That is my problem i would like to be able to use the collets and the lead screw like you describe, but the 3/8" thread on endmill holder is stuck on so I do not have access the where the collets would normally go at the bottom of the shaft of the spindal.

Here is the holder I am talking about:

Yep, I i want to use anything under 1/8" endmills or my drill chuck then it needs to go. And I need to replace it to the damn vibration stops. it isn't all that bad really, but it is enough to have to replave I think. Without that holder I cannot use 3/8" shank endmills so I do need it. Sigh, there goes $30 for that and who knows how much to replace what ever I damage getting it off. Oh well.

well, "I" dont have that problem!!! NAHH NAHHH NEEE BOOO BOOO!

well, you can prolly get it off without daminging to much of the mill, may just have to replace the holder.

Im suprised it didnt come with some collets, like mine did.

I gots the maxnc 15 open loop.
It is a little bit more expensive then Jays mill, because it does a few things his wont, But man am I jelouse of the hand wheels!!!!
can be seen here http://www.maxnc.com/page9.html

in this pic is the collet retaining nut. that I was talking about JAY. All I have to do is put a wrench on that (the black thingy) and a wrench on the spindle nut right abouve it, (Dont think U can see it from that angle, and either push the 2 wrenches together or pull um apart to tighten or loosen to get my collet and tool out.

Oh yeah, and tere is that vise that PAUL made for me.

Mine DID come with 3 collets, but I cannot use 3/8" shank endmills because the spindal shaft is to big for a 3/8" shaft collet. So that is where the 3/8" holder comes in. it actually works great unless the bit binds as it tightens itself. 1/2 HP worth of tourque at 3,000 RPM tight!!!

The problem with trying to rmove it is I need to clamp something to the spindal shaft AND the holder. Both of witch will get damaged.

OHH OK, I understand now.

Just get a pipe wrench on the tool holder that should losen it up.

It will leave teeth marks, but should still deem the tool holder useable.

edit:

Mine wont hold 3/8 shank either, and I do need to get some tool holders like U have.

I have been trying to bribe Pauls brother to make me some.

What do you use for endmills for milling the Spir@l? I need to get some good endmills.

He's drilling a mounting hole on the core so he can try direct core water injection cooling using an old fuel injector

Update:

Got my shiny new XP1600+ today so I hooked it up and put this new block on there. I used clear epoxy to attach the top and seal the connectors. Looks decent. Had it running for an hour now with the XP1600@1524mhz 145FSB 2.0Vcore crunchig SETI. What are the temps you ask???

Well they are not to bad at all!! Room temp is 23C and CPU load temp is 36C. Not sure what water temp is just yet. Need to find the probe and hook it up. But 13C over room temp is waaaaay better than I hoped for this block being I didn't make it for performance. Not bad for 5/16" wide and deep channels.

Will take a pic of it later with it mounted and give water temp.

Easy now, easy....

Belive it or not but water IS flowing through that block and the comp IS running. Temps are holding steady at 13C over room temp.

Not going to look as good as my next block though which I have the DFX done and am working on code now. it may just replace this block ion the Case mod project.

Sent you the DXF. Note that it is the toolpath and not an actual drawing of the finished product. Hell, I am not even sure what it will really look like untill I mill it.

Yeah that looked good, but is there enough room to make two channels like that at 1/4"?. My goal for my spiral was to fit on boards that do not have mounting holes now or in the future.
