ADMIN,
I have read that legal letter here on the forum again. In my opinion, it is on shakey ground posting how to locate it. It is still copyright, no matter how easy or difficult it is to find etc. Posting how to get it, without going through proper channels, is still putting the forum in a dangerous position. I would reccomend deleting the post, and any references to that post (including this one), just to be on the high ground and be safe. It is just not worth the risk(s). My 2 cents worth. |

You know I was just trying to download it from their website at first but I kept going in circles. They said to contact their feedback forum to request it to be downloaded. So, I did that but got impatient. Right on their instruction page they list all the information needed to find it. Just today I an email from Adaptec saying that if I pay $200 I can receive it. What a bunch of greedy b*st*rds. I can't believe they change that much for some glorifed firmware only good on their hardware. I guess they just want to prevent people from hacking old, now affordable, products.

I have removed any quotes to the post, since the statement has been retracted. I will leave the discussion for other to learn from. After all he did discover that the file was blocked from being downloaded, required $$$.
I keep hoping that Adaptec will release the SnapOS since they have stopped selling the units. I guess they have to wait 3 yrs so all of he warranties expire. + what ever contract support they have, but they get it free.

Hi guys and gals! I purchased an empty M4100 in March from Ebay and have filled it with 4 identical drives but have been unable to locate a CD for this thing. There's currently no OS on my system, and I need whatever starter kit it came with so that I can set it up from scratch. From what I've been reading and the pitiful free support I've been able to get from Adaptec, I'll need the latest OS to run my 230gb maxtors. Can anybody throw me a bone? I can be reached at jsepeta@hotmail.com

Ok here is a bone.
First of all start by reading the FAQ (thats the sticky at the top of the forum) There you will see several important things like 1) the 4100 has the os stored in flash and you should be able to start it up without drives. 2) It will not see drive space >137gb. You can use your bigger drives, but your only going to get 137gb 3) Follow the reset procedures to reset the unit to factory defaults, then log in through the web interface and see what version os you have. You only need the latest version if you are having problems with xp service pack 2. You only need 3.4.805 or later to use large hard drives (Which the 4100 will not do because of hardware/driver issue) 4) Please refer to the sticky at the top of the forum titled Snap posters please read. |

I have a 2200 and want to expand the drives beyond the 2x80GB, I need to update the firmware to something that'll support bigger HD than 137gb. Would very much appreciate it if someone could help me aquire updated firmware 3.4.805 or 4.x so I can upgrade the HDD of my snap.
Support from Snap-Adaptec doesn't work with my snap 2200. Could someone help me acquire the .sup file(s) and the Assist program needed to update the software? wzlotnik@gmail.com Thanks very much. |

Contact Adaptec (tech support) for the SnapOS, In most case they have been giving out v3.4.807 on request. We had a user talk to sales and they gave him a link to the latest v4 for free. He though it was rediculas that they wanted you to buy a service contract for a dead os. That has limited to not support.

User Assist.
You will be instructed to put the snap into FLUP mode this is 5 blinks , done the same way as the factory reset. When you do wait (give) the unit 30 sec or it will not sync up, she you press the continue button. Make sure you screen saver is turned off. and if you get a error saying it did not respond use the back arrow to keep it on the correct page. There is a pretty good delay but this is normal.

I am sorry, I don't quite understand. How do I put it into FLUP mode? Will I still be able to access it from the web interface to install the new version of the SnapOS?
Is there another method? Thanks for the clarification. |

When you launch Assist your Snap should be in the list, then select Advanced. This will drop you into a upgrade utility. You will be prompted for the admin PW, then select the upgrade file. Follow the instruction on the screen. You will be prompted to put the snap into FLUP mode. The instruction are here http://wiki.procooling.com/index.php/Snap_Server_Resets . Wat for 30-45 sec before continuing after putting the server in FLUP mode.

Contact Adaptec tech support via email, they will send you a link. Sometimes it's included with the OS sup files, along with JVM.
Snap Server Manager should allow you to do the same thing. I have not run it so I can't say for sure..

Adaptec was releasing v3.4.807 on request (email). Now that they have been bought out I do not know if that is still happening. So you will need to contact their tech support via email.

Torrents would be your only option now. That or see if you can get it from one of their sales reps. Some times sales reps have provided v4 free to users.

I have a Snap Server 2000 v2 that I am using with two 250GB drives in mirror. The OS was originally version 3.4.775 and would only see about 128GB of the drive space. I've used it that way for a couple of years now. I recently upgraded from 3.4.775 to 3.4.805. What do I need to do to make it see the full 250 GB now? Do I need to break the mirror, or remove the drives and reinstall them? I'm not really sure what the next step is. I read through the FAQS on this site for the 2000 but didn't see anything for my situation. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Use the search function on this sight to find the link to Overland Storage. They have released the latest v4 to the public.
To get full capacity you need to delete the shares ( deletes all data), then use the debug cmd to reinit the HD's. This cmd should be in the FAQ's. This will reset the drive size. If you running raid 1, break raid back to JBOD. Then copy your data to drive 2. Then init the drive 1. Once complete copy data back. The init drive 2. Then build your RAID1.
