Crashed HD's on Snap 2200
I had both drives crash on my Snap 2200. I've got two 250GB drives to replace the crashed drives and a second Snap 2200 that is running fine. How do I get the Snap OS on to the new drives on the crashed 2200? I've read through the threads and I'm confused about what the options for Snap OS installation.

Re: Crashed HD's on Snap 2200
If you have the drives configured as RAID 0 (Stripped) you will loose all data if only 1 drive fails. If this is the case. You need to change your configuration to RAID 1 (Mirror). You will need to backup the snap if in raid 0 prior to change. If you need to change the configuration, change to individual disk. Then install a new drive in the lower position. The Snap will transfer the OS over to the new drive in about 5-10 min. Then swap in the original HD. Then do your drive setup, I recommend RAID 1.
Then use Digital Dolly to make a copy of the boot tracks. Burn this to a CD for safe keeping. Then you can install the new HD in to the failed 2200, top. New blank HD in lower. Instructions for DD using Knoppix is in the wiki section. All other info you need is in the FAQ's

Re: Crashed HD's on Snap 2200
I think I may not have explained my situation clearly. My snap server with the crashed drives will not boot from the drives at all. So I have two 250 GB drives to replace them with but I don't know how to do is get the Snap OS from my working SNAP that is set up as Raid 1 to the new drives on the old SNAP. I have a disk that says it have Software V 4.0860 on it but I can only find Assist and the manual on it. Can I copy the SNAP OS from my working SNAP to the New drives on the OLD SNAP?

Re: Crashed HD's on Snap 2200
You have a working snap to get the OS from. The easiest way is to install the new HD on the working Snap. Doing so will break the Mirror so Change the drive config back to Individual Drives on the working Snap. Remove 1 drive from the working snap, install one of your new 250gig drive. Boot the snap. In ~ 5min, when ever the disk drive LED goes out. Connect to the snap and check the drive status. At this time the new drive should have the OS on it. Power down. Install the 250gig in the top postion of the Failed Snap, blank on the bottom. See if it boots. You should be good to go. Put your working Snap Back together. Change your drive config back to Raid1.

Re: Crashed HD's on Snap 2200
I'm sort of in the same boat as WinMac, except I don't have a spare Snap to copy the OS over. My snap is no longer 'entitled' to any downloads or support from Adaptec.
I've searched far and wide for the image files. I found lots of people looking, but no one offering the files. Anyone have a clue where to find them? I have the original CD w/Assist and Docs, but without the boot files, all I have is a nice looking paperweight. I haven't given up hope, but I'm close. |
