ARGHGHGHGHG --- Snap 2200 gone missing
Hello all --
I have an old snap 2200 that has been working happily for years. Just yesterday it decided to pull a disappearing act from my network .. it no longer seems to be attaching itself to my DHCP. I'm running a couple macs through a Firebox Edge X -- The snap has a blinking system light (about 1x per second), a steady Link light; and the net light blinks 2x every 15 seconds or so. -When I start up or shut down the unit, I get the normal christmas tree effect. I don't have the latest snapOS as the ver3 I have on disk will not load on the new OSX - will SnapOS 4? I also can't seem to get a copy of this from the adaptec website because I'm out of date or some such nonsense. I did a 4 blink reset, and hope that if I reinstall the snapOS, the unit will 'find' itself again -- If there is any help out there in cyberland I would greatly appreciate it!!! Getting a bit frustrated :-( thank you and good evening .. S_ |

Re: ARGHGHGHGHG --- Snap 2200 gone missing
Since you did a reset to factory you need to use Assist to locate the snap, it defaults to 0.0.0.0 ip which will not be found any other way. If you do not have Assist, Adaptec will give it to you on request. They have been releasing the latest version 3 on request. Some have talked to sales and was able to get v4, with the argument Why should I buy support on a EOL product that you no longer support. I would also move it to a different port and cable.
Read the FAQ's (link in sig) it has a lot of info, as well as the wiki section of this site. V4 will load on all of the latest snapos units, sp yes to your quesion. It has some problems with v1 1000's.

Re: ARGHGHGHGHG --- Snap 2200 gone missing
Ok -- I can now get to the OS via an internet browser on PC only --
I am trying to connect via FTP - but am only getting the top directory (also PC only) -- the Share Folder gets a "?" in it -- keeping on plugging away -- If I Can get an FTP connection I'll dump everything in an external firewire and call it a win!!! help anyone? Advice? |

Re: ARGHGHGHGHG --- Snap 2200 gone missing
I think the saga is coming to an end --
by upgrading to WinXP sp2 I was able to see the drive on my friends laptop -- I am now slow copying everything to an old USB hard drive - which I will then copy via my mac to my 500gb firewire drive --- Please please work ... If I don't come back here you will know that I have been successfull! |

Re: ARGHGHGHGHG --- Snap 2200 gone missing
Sorry for the delayed response, but I'm out of town.
I have noticed the latest OSX 10.5 is not compatable (SMB) with the SnapOS v4 as well as Vista. For this support you need a newer Guardian Units. FTP access does work, but is very sensitive to settings. FileZilla FTP client has worked the best for me. If behind a firewall make sure you select Active mode, passive if going through a FW. Also the PC Firewall can and will block local pc's if not setup correctly. If you do not shut down the Snaps properly they go through a long process of verifying the data. So Always use the power button or menu option.

Re: ARGHGHGHGHG --- Snap 2200 gone missing
Ive had no problems accessing the snapOS with my macbook, running 10.5. In fact, I have one setup for my timemachine dump site.

How did you configure the share for timemachine to accept the network share? None of mine are reconized as a usable share.
