Re: Model:4500 Recommend me some upgrades
Welcome to the forum. We have several users from your area now.
You can upgrade the HD's I know for a fact that several have used 500gigs. At the time no one was making any thing larger in EIDE. If you search the threads you will find the procedure used. V4.4.049 has 3 service packs available for it, free of charge. GOS v5 is available from Overland formerly Adaptec/ SnapAppliance for a $$$, It is mainly updates and fixes to support AD 2008, Vista, and OSX fixes + it adds Raid 6 & 10. Hardware wise, Ram is a must. Min of 1T is recommended.

Re: Model:4500 Recommend me some upgrades
nice info there.
Im guessing you swap the drives one by one, syncing raid inbetween? has anyone tried running bootcd nix ditros on the SNAP hardware, like freenas etc? too be honnest with you i find the guardian os to be crap. we have nothing but trouble with the snap device netvault and the 8 slot tape library hanging off it. |

One has installed FreeNAS on a 4500. I don't use NetVault so I can't comment on it. I can comment on the S10. I have had problem with mine and has determined it to be the controller card (8ch SATA) in the 4500. Mine has already had some repairs on port 2, I need to do some more on port1. Indications are is that there are cold joints (poor solder jobs) at the connector. The stiff heavy cable has broken them down. After 2-3 day of standby mine will start kicking out errors, If I do not reboot it will lock up the 4500.
