Volume Repair Help
I have an issue where the odd file is viewable but I cannot do anything with it.
If I try to copy it I get an “access denied” error but I do have access to the share… Can anyone suggest a fix for this? |

Re: Volume Repair Help
Is this on a SnapOS unit? If so, you may be able to access the file via FTP (obviously, FTP needs to be enabled in the server admin menu).

Re: Volume Repair Help
You need to stop samba and restart it. There was a post on this awhile back. If it's a deleted file and a marker left behind I just use putty to remove it.

Re: Volume Repair Help
Hi Gents,
I tried both items, Disabled Un-opp Locking & restarted Samba but still no dice… I also attempted downloading it from the web page that did not work either. I have 6 files in that folder and two can be copied but four cannot be copied, I am sure I did not accidentally delete them... As I have admin rights as a user I did not try it being logged in as an admin but will do that Next but I do not think that is the issue… Any more assistance will be very much appreciated… |

Re: Volume Repair Help
When working on the shell level you must be logged in as admin to do anything.

Re: Volume Repair Help
Hi Blue,
I have tried it as admin and still it will not work. the previous post said that the user; "I can copy and save files. But I can't delete or edit (and save!!) them. Windows (all releases) say: file is open. Everything is justified as on the other servers." In my case I can see the files they look complete. There are 5 in the directory but 3 of them will not allow me to play, copy or delete the other two will allow these actions When I play from this location media player gives me the message is; "Windows media player cannot access the file. the file might be in use, you might not have access to when the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct" When I copy from this location windows explorer gives me the message; “cannot copy [file]; access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use” When I try to download from the snap gui it just keeps asking for login details over an over but the file beside it asks once and goes to the download window… |

Re: Volume Repair Help
Hi Blue & viewers,
Its all good now, when I did a recent replication the problem files played ball... I rebooted after making the changes as per the related posts; “Check that you have opportunistic locking disabled. Also, restart samba by running /etc/init.d/smbd restart on the command line (as root). That should release any existing file locks.” And it didn't allow me to access the files so I am not sure when it happend but it is fine now... |
