Default New system about to be tested

Well after over 6 months of planning and collecting parts the system I have planned is finally about to be put to the test tomorrow.

The system I refer to is the one in my signature. The one with the 1957 Chevy Full Size Car Radiator.

That is Radiator, Not Heater Core.

This puppy will be cooling a single Prescott Core 2.8E P4 for the time being.

However once DD releases their new Vid Card cooler I may be adding this to the system as well as a Northbridge block.

Hopefully all will go well as I need this system to host a gaming server for Neverwinter Nights. This server will also serve as my primary gaming rig and general use computer.

Wish me luck.

Well, the system is now filled and flowing beautifully.

Unfortuneately it ended up wasting about 2 gallons of distilled water,.

I learned that having the pump pushing water up from the bottom of the radiator was a phenominally BAD idea. Created WAY too much back pressure on the pump for it to be able to work properly.

I reversed the pump connection and it primed up in no time.

Added a little WW fluid and some Prestone to kill the bugs and I am now letting her cycle for a while to make sure she isnt gonna flood my house.

Tonight if all goes well I will be booting up my new P4 Rig

Hmmmm, Seems I have hit a snag

System is leak free. Overclocks effortlessly to 3.01.Ghz (FSB 215) in the Bios and shows a system temp in the PC Health Status of 35C.

Unfortunately after the system POST it begins initialising the drives then displays an infinite loop of 1's and 0's.

Anyone have any idea what this means?

Have I completely fried my setup or do I have a dud mobo?

As for the dimensions of the Radiator.

It is approximately 24 inches wide by about 22 inches tall on the actual finned area with brass tanks on the top and bottom that are approximately 4 inches.

The Rad is a good 2 and a half to three inches thick.

I took off the stock 2 inch tubes and covered the hole with some copper plate made by flattening a couple of pieces of copper piping. Then I installed three 1/2" ID barbs, two at the top and one at the bottom.

Will it run at stock speed? Prescotts aren't known as particularly good overclockers, although I'd consider you unlucky if you couldn't even boot at 3Ghz with water.

Yep runs at stock speed fine. The only reason I O/Ced it was to see if it was actually working as far as the FSB.

BTW the error it is displaying is actuall a string of this.

01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01

That scrolls infinitely until you either hit pause break or shut it down

I also can;t hear the hard drive spin up like it should, but that could be the three fans in the case covering it up.

OK Maybe not, It went into a repair install for windows just fine.

Anyone out there know what the string of 01 01 01 01 infinitely means?

Think I should reset my BIOS?

Yes. That's the only thing that has changed, isn't it? Hence, undo it, and the problem is solved (maybe not satisfactorily, but good enough for now)

Ok I am officially a Linux Idiot

I forgot I had put a dual boot setup of winXP home and Mandrake 9 on this rig on TWO SEPERATE hard drives

Guess what drain brammaged me forgot to put in this machine?

Yep, the linux drive.

It was the bootloader generating that 01 01 01 01 error.

Computer is finalising the restore build of windows that it probably didn't need.

Will take some pics after I get my game on and put this puppy through it's paces.

Wow. Awsome. My mom has a 57 Chevy. 2 tone: black body white top. Straight 6 cylinder engine with the power glide transmission. The radiator in those things were huge. You wont need any fans with that. 35C on a Press-hot is really awsome.

Keep up the good work.

Well it is confirmed now via the BIOS and MBM 5.

35 to 37 C at idle on a 2.8E Prescott running officially at 3.01 Ghz at FSB of 215.

Will run PC Mark in a bit to get the load temps for you.

well after a few hours of Neverwinter Nights online play I am now running defrag as this thing is massively fragged from my earlier screw up.

The machine has yet to get over 40 C and I have yet to turn on the blower for the radiator.

I am extremely pleased with the results on this setup.

My room temp averages between 20 and 25 C

I am running defrag and it is showing 19 C case temp with 37 C CPU temp in MBM.

Not bad for my first ever successful overclock.

Ok final report on this setup for a while

First off.

Danner Mag 7 while a great pump. Runs HOT!!!! I think this one will be getting upgraded to an Iwaki sometime in the furture.

Second. I will be building a shroud to direct the airflow from the blower up into the radiator to get more CFM through the rad.

Third. I really wish I had splurged on better tubing. This stuff kinks too darn easily. SHoulda gone with Clearflex or Tygon.

4th. The DD RBX works great with the Jet Nozzle (the one with the tiny jet holes not the slit) Just gotta push a lot of water through it to make it work.

5th. I do not notice any discernable temp difference between running with the blower on and with iot running passive with no blower. This may however be du to the lack of a duct to direct airflow through the rad.

I am still looking for a good all copper GPU waterblock and possibly a NB block for the system. My goal was to achieve a mild overclock and have somthing I could feasibly hook up multiple computers to. It was mostly a proof of concept thing.

Enjoy the pics. Lemme know if you want any other shots.

Ok I lied. I just bumped the FSB to 230 and she booted and is running rock stable at 3.2 Ghz.

This is still with passive watercooling. System Idle temp is now between 38 and 40 C

R2D2 ran at 30 Terahertz

For tubing, dude, just go to Lowes and get some 1/2ID- 3/4OD inch think cross braided tubing. It has the white xxxxx type pattern woven into the tubes. It won't kink and it's only $0.69 per foot. I had the 1/2 ID 5/8 OD stuff and it kinked like crazy.

Thats probably what I will do I got the 1/2" ID stuff from Home Depot and it kinks like made if it is the least bit of a tight turn. that;s one of the reasons for those ugly loops on the back coming out of the case.

FYI the three tubes in the case are the 1 inlet for the RBX and the 2 Outlets which combine in that funky home made T at the top of the radiator.
