My buddy in language, Roscal, tried what I suspected would be a dramatic improvement to the Zalman reserator:
http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php...50&postcount=5 The results speak for themselves: bring out the paper and fans! ![]() |

Is there some reason a heater core, at a fraction of the price, can't acheive the same goals/results?

I dont know, do it with a clear tube, and a fan that would suit it (clear fan, LED blue, or one of those UV reactive blue fans) and it would look better than it does stock, imo

Yep... Exactly.
I'm still amazed that Zalman isn't offering this as an option. I understand thay Zalman is all over fanless solutions, but the improvement here is so dramatic, and the compromise is so small... |

Another improvement could be to put the tube going into the radiator towards the top of the thing and have it angled slightly so it swirls the water around inside. I imagine this would greatly improve the transfer of heat between the water and radiator.

You could make the screw part out of galvanized sheet metal and wrap it around a copper pipe and weld it to it or use JB weld. Make the screw part that goes around the copper pipe the same diameter as the inside diameter of the reserator. Insert into the reserator and attach the intlet to the copper tube to force the inlet to come out at the top then run down the screw. Since the whole thing would be filled it would be over kill and probably wouldnt change much from just forcing the inlet to come out at the top but it would be really fun to do ![]() |

Cheaper, yes. Reserator, no. This is about silence and bling, and what performance it has is nice, it's not the point. They're very clear that it is not meant for performance, "Not for high performance cooling" is what they say about it.
