Default New Watercooled rig, any suggestions?

Hello everyone,

First time poster and no, I don't have any stock recommendations other then "Buy Low and Sell High".

I'm putting together a new PC in the next month or so (waiting for the new AMD E revs) and I want to water cool this one. Mostly just to play with it but also to max my overclock and to quiet the system as much as possible.

Here is what I'm planning on building (major parts)

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 90nm Winchester/Venice
DFI LANParty nF4 SLI-DR
1GB OCZ EL PC4000 VX Gold Pair
XFX GeForce 6800 GT PVT45GUD (2)
Western Digital WD3200JB
OCZ PowerStream 520 PS
Viewsonic VP171B-2/or VXxxx model if available
NEC 3500A DVD Burner
??? PC CASE

I will eventually purchase a 2nd HD to do a RAID 0 and more RAM if needed.

Here is the water cooling kit that I'm considering:

Swiftech MCW6002-64 or Radiical CWX (Storm G4 not avail)
Danger Den Maze4 GPU
Danger Den Maze4 Chipset
AquaXtreme 50Z-DC12 Pump
HWLabs Black Ice Pro II Rad
Yate Loon 120mm Fans
Danger Den 5.25 Bay Res
PrimoFlex 1/2 Tube
Ideal Clamps
FluidXP

Ok, this is based on some research and feedback from various sources. Initially I had considered the White Water and PolarFlo. I went with the BIP II instead of the BIX II since my fans will not be putting out a great deal of air.

I'm still researching which case will fit a BIP II without much modding.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Yep Lian Li's are on my radar for sure. My main concern is being able to fit the dual 120 rad inside (which is my preferred method) without tons of modding. Would be nice if the case has two side by side intake/exhaust 120mm fans since I would like to be taking cooler air from the outside directly into the rad.

don't know of any case that has two side by side intake/exhaust 120mm fans.

I would ditch the nb water block. Its not goin to do much better than a good air cooling solution will and it will add more restriction to your loop.

I would get one of thier newer blocks as the maze 4 isnt the greatest. One last thing, be warned that plexi resevoirs tend to develope cracks over time.

skip the fluidxp
very expensive for only a little piece of mind and less performance
you seem to have a copper only system so corrosion should not be a big concern

but still use a good additive such as HydrX plus distilled water for both cheap and effective protection

leaks are not a tremendous concern (provided that you leak test and use common sense)

Adding Hydrx to the list, I'm a bit over cautious so I'll be leak testing for at least 48 hours = )

I'm going to change the Res to a Danger Den Bay Reservoir High-Density Polyethylene one, good point about the Plexi.

As for the Maze4 GPU and Chipset blocks I was not able to find anything "newer" on Danger Den's website (other then the 6800 version for almost $120 and I don't want to spend that much on a GPU block). What else would you recommend?

I'm pretty much giving up on the dual 120mm fan cases so I'm settling for a decent case that I can just mod a bit to fit inside.

The now-out-of-production LiteOn FS020 had two 120mm exhaust fans, one above the other - but insufficient room for the Black Ice II (two 120mm fans) rads. The Chenbro 1040 (Genie) has room in the lower front for a Black Ice II - but you need to be comfortable with cutting sheet metal to put it there.
IMHO, it's easier to fit a more-square radiator (as in montego heater core) in most cases...
and PS - if you want someone else to do the sheet metal work, either buy a complete case from Swiftech or get a custom-to-your-order one at coolcases.com

While the powerstream 520 is, according to many, many accounts a great PSU, I'm not sure how recommended it is for SLI setups. There's a nice PSU THREAD over at XS that I found to be pretty informative - although I get the sense that the poster is rather conservative (which I don't mind).

Don't take this post too seriously - I have a powerstream 520 on the way to me right now, and I'll probably at least try an SLI setup with it at some point, and one of the OCZ reps at XS said the 520 ran his SLI without problems.
