I am looking for a pump for a new system. I was thinking between Swiftech mcp655 or eihem 1250. I was thinking to go with eihem because it suppose to run a bit quiet than mcp655 but will that drop pefromance with my setup.
Here's my water setup Swiftech Strom Dandger Den Aceltal low profile max gpu block Thermochill PA120.2 Swiftech MicroReservior So what do you think MCP655 or Eihem1250 |

How important is noise to you? How important is simplicity?
The MCP655 is good for performance and a simple install (runs off of your PSU). The 1250, from what I've heard and read, runs quieter, doesn't perform much worse, though it is larger and you will need to install a relay kit so it turns on/off with your system. |

mcp655
has rougly 2x the head of the 1250, is half the size, and runs on DC instead of AC. I had a 1250 in a previous system. Runs quite a lot louder than the mcp655 does. |

mcp655.
but I agree with Anonymous. every eheim i had , and still have two 1048, are very silent. my mcp600 is more audible than them.

Everyone tells me the D4's are screamers... but mine is dead silent. So I guess it is just the luck of the draw.
I know my new D5 is ultra-quiet. |

Or perhaps you can't hear high sounds well?

I'd rip but I'm not a Pro and I'm too lazy....
Orkan: what AA said is acutally true. Everybody percieves sounds differently. E.G. there were a lot of people who said the vantec stealth 9cm fans were "dead silent". I bought two and found them to have an annoying "whine" sound. Different people have different ears. My experience with Eheim has been blistful silence (1048 back in the day). |

Joe, funny how you post about not wanting drama one day...
then the next you run around and cause as much of it as you can. Doesn't it bother you that this type of posting is why pro-cooling lost favor with many people? |

just to say that :
d4 and d5 are, to me of course, discernably louder than a 1048. high pitch whine. properly conditioned, inside a case, fixes it (usually). @Joe and others. simple, best thing you can do to those types of posts is to ignore. do so.

I'm currently running (4 )1250's and a couple MCP655's.
If I needed another pump now, I'd get another MCP655... I find it insignificantly louder than the 1250, is smaller, doesn't need a relay, and is a better performer. It is much quieter than my older MCP650 sitting in the closet. |

To all: noise is a relative thing. One person might find the noise level of an MCP655 to be very tolerable, while others might start pulling there hair out while listening to it. Noise, however, can be measured. There was a comparison of pump noise over on coolingmasters.com not too long ago. I'll dig it up and post it. |

It may also depend on the case that pump is installed. In some case the pump probably can be quiet than in other ones depending if the case lots of holes.
I will try out mpc655 because of its better performance. |

@marcin12
Suspect in that situation mass is the issue. if the case isnt "heavy" enough, even the smallest vibration can cause vibrational noise. rubber/foam padding helps, but only to a certain point. best way , IMO, is still, mass. when i built mine i suffered from the same issue, as it (are) is constructed in somewhat thin metal sheet, vibration is an issue.

Orkan you are a flagrant asshole, im sorry to say this but I have been reading over your posts on this forum with extreme displeasure. Why dont you pull it together or get the F*** out of here. Oh, and please have the decency not to reply to this.
The volume at which one listens to music and the speaker power used, surely have an effect on one's ears. Im not a doctor, but I read that the intense sound can even break-off the hairs inside the inner ear used to pick up sound. But on-topic of your response, have you thought about components or equipment in your test-area potentially overpowering or canceling out the whine of your D4? anyways: I have the older D4 (MCP650) which has a whine to it but that is the ONLY thing I can find wrong with it. I would definately recommend the D5 (MCP655) over the eheim just for the performance aspects of the D5. Eheim is an excellent manuf. though, dont get me wrong. **edit spelling (liking the new in-post editing box Joe !!) |
