Default Buildup with MCT5 normal?

Went to go install my new MCW55 today and pulled off my hoses and pulled out my res to find a nice buildup on the inside of both. Is this normal?

The clear tube here is new, next to the tube that has been running for 2 months or so.

i cant help but show the finished prodcuct

"normal" ?
related to the transpiration through the wall then ?

ya, its also on the wall of the res next to the barbs where the liquid swirls around...

it's the usual white film... good luck with that, no one has brought a definitive answer about it yet.
I'd be curious to examine it under a microscope though.

Have you ever used water in that loop, or only ever MCT-5?

no, only liquid this loop has ever seen has been MCT5.

Yeah that is the dreaded scaling of the tubing. What tubing is that anyway?

I sure don't like the looks of the white frosting in your cooling loop. Once there is air in the lines, this white stuff is like a powder that has coated everything.

This powder coats more than just the plastic too. I have a Danger-Den cold-block with this stuff on it. The white powder coated the entire copper cold-block inside base surface. Would this hinder thermal transfer from the copper block to the coolant? It could from the looks of it. Once a person flushes the cooling loop, this white chalky stuff appears when the air is introduced.

This white chalky power is not friendly to pumps with bearing shafts either.

RoboTech and I have tossed around questions regarding this mystery white chalk powder issue in the past.

It sounds to me it's a chemical. Either used to clean and polish the blocks or used to make the tubing.

Could also be part of an additive we're using since most additives are solids before they're mixed in with a liquid at the processing plant.

when using my finger it wipes right off the inside of the tubing. It is the Swiftech tubing that came with the Apex kit (7/16ID). Should i clean out the MCT5 and go with something water based? Considering i am using the Storm, extra gunk getting into those jets are gonna be a real performance killer. What is "Scaling of the tubing"?

That stuff you have on the inside of your tubing is, "Scaling of the tubing."

I don't think anyone has been able to figure out what exactly it is yet.
It does not seem to be peculiar to any type of clear plastic based tubing, regardless of quality(given enough time). It also appears to be independent of the fluid used.

(all of this has been said already in this thread)

Well, i just got it all up and running again. MCT5 sure did leave some nasty gunk in my blocks! I swapped over to Pentosin 90/10 mix.

Here's the pics

I first drained the loop, then ran a 50/50 mix of distilled and vinegar, then drained and ran distilled through it a while to flush out, then broke everything down.

Here's the before

Here's after..

When tightening down the Storm block one of the screw's heads just snapped right off! A quick run to home depot and i devised a better solution. I mounted studs rather than screwing down. Studs should offer better mounting for bare cores of course cuz you cannot come down and have it not straight. Im sure this is nothing new, but it is for me

I cannot directly contribute this to the change in fluid cuz i did flush out the rad and run the fins under hot water to get out any dust, but i went from 38-39C load to 34-36C load! WOW! Needless to say, im a happy camper.
