Default 140mm fan experience and where to buy?

Hi,

I'm moving to a Cooler Master Stacker 830 case which supports 140mm fans.

I've done a bit of research that I'll share but if anyone has anything to add, please let me know.

There are three companies that appear to make 140mm fans:

1. Aerocool: (http://www.aerocool.us/p-accessory/s...treamliner.htm)

Nice looking, but suspect noise specs. Also the operating voltage is very limited (apparently they won't start under 10V). I'd be interested in knowing if after they start, if they will slow down to say 7V or 5V... anyone? It's key for me to be able to control the fans with a fan controller.

2. Yate Loon: (http://www.yateloon.com/style/conten...=8511&id=38839)

They have three models... the SL is the silent low speed model. Apparently good voltage range and low noise. Availability? Can someone help out here? This German ebay seller has the medium and high versions: http://stores.ebay.de/silencio-777_W...QQftidZ2QQtZkm

3. Sharkoon: (http://www.sharkoon.com/enghtml/fans_system.htm)

They have three models as well. I have inquired about availability here in NA. CrazyPC sells the high speed version only (http://www.crazypc.com/products/fans/140mmfans.htm).

This French company has an English version of their site and they sell the products but are currently back-ordered (http://www.pc-look.com/boutik/produc...r=PrixMateriel)

Does anyone know of any other sources for the Sharkoon or Yates fans?

Can anyone comment on the lowest operating voltage for these various fans?

Thanks!

I've got 3x YL D14SM-12s on my PA120.3, got them from silencio-777. He stocks the low-speed ones as well, theyre just outta stock atm - you'll notice he's out of D12SH-12s as well.

I'm extremely happy with them. @4.25v (which is what my t-balancer runs them at until coolant goes >26c) they push almost like D12SLs @ 7v. @ 12v they have a noticeable blade-tip buzz, but overall not noticeably louder than D12SLs @ 12v.

They do stop spinning @4v where D12SLs generally stop @ ~3, but theyre dead silent by that point anyway.

Cool. I've been after Silenco-777 for the slow speed version and he's going to notify me when he gets some more. Thanks for the tips. I'm amazed they even go to 4V.

I bet that the yateloons D14SM is already near silent at 9V and silent at 7V. They run at only 1400 rpms so the hum is audible but get it down to 1200 and lower and hard to hear it inside a case. Get more noise from harddrives if they are not enclosed.

The aerocools will be louder than yateloon and will be a disappointment. I have the 120mm turbine fan that is rated the same as the 140mm and this fan is louder than my 120mm yateloons, 120mm CM UVs and ultra silent fans, 120mm sunbeam, and other 120mm fans. On par with my panaflo Ms at 12V and is easily one of my noiser fans. The extra blades make more noise

Well, I cant do a test of that anymore as theyre semi-permanently affixed into my rad's custom shroud, and my Stacker 810 is soundproofed.

If I was running them @ 12v all the time I'd probably get annoyed at them, but then I get annoyed even @ D12SLs given enough time - "white noise" type sound gives me headaches, i have to hoover the inlet/outlet and brush dust off the fans of my PS2/XBox/GC regularly or they piss me off >_<

You could try EBM-Papst: http://www.ebmpapst.us/Search/search.asp

How did you sound proof a CM stacker 830 case? I don't have one but seems impossible given the open front end and 4x 120mm side panels. You have pics of your rig?

I have the older stacker and it is impossible to keep silent but is very quiet. The HD cage is good at lowering the noise but wasn't enough for me.

If you're referring to my 830 case, you're right, it would be insane to try and silence it by enclosing it.

I've just started the project and I'm taking a different approach to silence (or reducing noise) than most... Instead of putting everything in a vault like case to deaden the sound, I'm hoping to eliminate as much sound as possible and use the ventilation of the 830 to my advantage by allowing everything enough air to breath without any fans other than those side panel fans which will be drawing air through the rads and blowing air over the entire system. If the YL's are as silent as people say, the system should be fairly silent but a lot of air will be moving through the case. We shall see.

Yateloons should be very quiet if you undervolt.
My experience with the CM case before is got dissembled is it can't be dead silent because it has too many openings but it can very silent if you undervolt the fans and extra ventilation helps alot.

I've purchased an Aquaero fan controller which should allow me full control over the noise.
