Here's a link with some info. With some metallic smartcoils (aka spring ) it would look pretty good!

If it works, how long does it work? Is it enough with a few centimeters to stop growth?

I've never had any problems with algee. However no matter what I do I can't keep my tubing clear! I doubt that this will prevent clouding, any idéas what would?

mcmaster also carries some antibacterial tubing; part #: 8354K11 and 8354K12 for 3/8" and 1/2" tubing, respectively. Both are ~75 cents/ft, may be worth a try if whatever you're doing right now is not cutting it.

It seems like a legitimate product description.

More info:

I couldn't find any specific references to recirculating applications, but there is a mention of using black tubing, which is really where we should be first looking, IMO; clear tubing is over-rated.

The clouding comes from the mixture of coolant (even plain water) with the plasticizer, a leftover residue from manufacturing. A good scrubbing or flush can clear it up (search here for the pine-sol flush, by Airspirit).

Note that this is food grade tubing, and probably doesn't have plasticizer residue. It's normally used in food dispensing.

I wasn't really aiming for clear when i searched through mcmaster, just pressed antimicrobial and then selected the ID.

I just double checked and they don't seem to carry opaque antibacterial tubing.

I am actually just getting into water cooling so I have no experience with algae, just sounds like a miserable experience getting it and want to try and prevent it.
Here is a link on some tubing that might be cool. Kind of neat blue color and almost looks transparent but the salesman said it wasnt. Hes sending me a sample piece to check out.

Also did a little research on silver additives and found some interesting stuff.
Maybe a dose of this stuff might help prevent or get rid of some existing algae or whatever growth conditions?

Shouldn't the copper components be enough to combat algae?
I use a tinted hose for outdoor garden ponds that I get from a local aquarium shop. Works for me!

No, there isn't enough copper in solution to kill algae.

I agree with Ben that a fully opaque system is worth a look. No light means no algae. And if your coolant is reasonably pure to begin with, no algae means no bacteria.
