Default Mag II pump oddity

Hi,

I've put together my first (cheap) WC system recently (using this forum as a primary resource, actually), and am quite happy with result (significant drop in temperatures and almost silent), if it wasn't for one thing...

The pump (DangerDen-branded MAG II LE) doesn't seem to start by itself (that is, no signs of life when plugged in normally). If I plug it in with reverse polarity, it "jumps" (does something briefly for maybe half a second), and starts working properly when I reverse the connection again.

No problems once it gets going (well, other than the vibration, which was easily fixable with some foam).

Anyone heard of something like this before? I'd appreciate any ideas...
(I'd rather not replace the pump unless it's a major defect, since it was bought in a store in another city plus other complications...)

P.S. I don't think it matters, but here are the other components:

- tubing: 5/16" ID (bad idea. It's there is because it went with the CPU block fittings perfectly and the 3/8 was out of stock I'll replace it with 3/8".)
- Radiator: Swiftech MCR120 (single)
- CPU: Zalman ZM-WB2 (on X2 3800+ EE)
- Video: Zalman ZM-GWB1 (on 7300GT)
- Reservoir: water bottle with 3/8" barbs
Mounted in Antec NSK2400 case

Return the pump. The MagII-LE is as notorious as it's predecessors for failure...

Started up today without extra help, I wonder if the cold weather (<-25 outside, I believe) has anything to do with it. Can't /return/ WC parts (store (MEX) policy), but I guess I'll try to get a replacement sometime soon.

Contact DD directly. Don't bother with the place you bought it. Maybe they'll even let you "trade-up".

Which would mean paying shipping to the US, (possibly, haven't done it before) other taxes on return, and having to put up with quite a noisy system in the process.

Never hurts to ask! Danger Den Contact Page

You've paid for an item and it's under warranty. Even if it they forward you to a vender near you in Canada. They have a number of large resellers in Canada that more then likely will handle the claim if Danger Den asks them to .

DangerDen yesterday informed me that they have suspended the Mag-II-LE pump due to ridiculously high failure rates... they won't be available until C-Systems resovle the reliability issues (that have haunted their products since the CSP750 was released).

Nice side-note Marci! Hopefully those customers who have had failure will be offered a fair resolution fo replacements.

We're just handing out full refunds at the mo... let the customer decide what replacement they want to get rather than deciding what to replace it with for them. I hate making decisions for people...

Whoa, thanks for the note! I've had trouble gathering information on C-systems pumps in general, would be nice if this kind of info would be stored in a wiki or something similar.

(Actually, not just pumps, I guess that applies to pretty much every component when you're a newbie like me... Everyone likes to make statements on, say, how good of a biocide a 20% antifreeze solution is, or how much pump X sucks, but it's hard to find more authoritative sources with /some/ reasoning.)

Well, it sure is completely dead now (running without it and hoping the chunk of copper and a big fan will help the temperature stay below 60). And I didn't realize DD was doing some server maintenance, looks like I have to resend the message.

I'm doubting your going to be able to run that system w/o a pump, unless alot of thought was put into gravitational and thermo-dynamics. If you must.... seriously under clock and under-volt your CPU.
