Need help getting started with WC (budget) in my system
Hi. I am new to this forum and water cooling and have a lot of questions. I have this system which is a bit old(er). I recently installed a new graphics card, an ATI 3870. My system is kind of loud already before the new graphics card and now with it, its even louder. So, I have been searching forums and computer sites for that I can do to resolve my issue with computer noise and seem like water cooling is the way to go. Am I correct on this? Since the 2 main sources of noise in my setup are the CPU heatsink fan and the graphics card fan, I would like to cool them down with liquid. I need help in picking out the major components (like pump, rad, etc.). from this website http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?minorcatid=1165. I am going with this online store cuz I cannot find any local shop that sells these kind of stuff and I've already order from them before, so... Also, I am very limited with my budget right now. Can anyone help? Please let me know if you guys need more info that will help.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Okay. I did some virtual shopping for the major components and was wondering if anyone can validate things that I picked along the way.
- Magicool Slim 240 Dual 120MM Water Cooling Radiator G1/4 Threads - Magicool Copper CPU Water Block S478/LGA775/S939/S754/SAM2 G1/4 Threads No Barb Fittings Included - Danger Den MAZE5 GPU Water Block W/ Low Profile Acetal Top for Most NVIDIA & ATI Video Cards 1/2IN - Swiftech MCP655 12V Industrial Water Cooling Pump 1/2IN Barbs Will those stuff fit together? I am going for a budget WC. Please feel free to suggest other brand/model. Please advise. Thanks again. |

Please advise./QUOTE]You'll need fans too...and they make noise just like your CPU cooler and GPU fans do. The ticket to "quiet" WC'ing is large radiator(s) and quiet fans. That pump will be OK with any CPU/GPU blocks. With blocks higher water flow rates have diminishing returns. After 2 gpm, more flow doesn't have much effect. With radiators though it's different. The effect of more air flow much more linear. You can look at it this way: A 120 x 1 Rad with a 200 CFM fan would be equal to a 120 x 4 Rad with 4 x 50 cfm fans (well, sort of). A 120 x 1 Rad with a 50 cfm fan would be ...well, quiet, but useless for cooling. A 120 x 4 Rad with 4 x 200 cfm fans would be awesome(ly loud). Hey, thanks for the advise. I will keep those in mind when I start building my system.
Thanks again. |
