W/ Rambus's prices dropping hugely, i'd like to snag some Rambus w/ an Athlon... I guess that's not too likely though.

Prolly not, DDR will be just as cheap after it comes out and RAMBUS is kinda an Intel only thing for now. Though after DDR it might just go out of business anyway

I know ddr will be cheaper, but rambus outperforms it...

For the first generation (I think it is PC1600), but after PC2100 it will be beat down

For all practical uses the latency of DDR is MUCH better then the Rambus. I would NEVER even consider putting that white elephant ram in any system I am building. Thankfully AMD will stay DDR. ------------------ C-ya Joe |

okay here's the thing, RAMBUS has a contract with Intel, and they are making sure Intel is upholding that contract. That is why Intel currently doesn't have a DDr solution, with that contract they can ONLY use rambus in their computers. So RAMBUS will only be available for Intel computers.
Now as for speed, RAMBUS will always have a faster in-order request perforance than DDR but as soon as out-of-order request are made RAMBUS bites it big, and that's because the pipeline has to flush and start over for an out-of-order request, this is a big hinderence on latency. If RAMBUS can get their prices down and increase the pipeline on their ram, it will be far better than DDR, but BOTH have to happen before that can be true, and the odds of both happening sometime soon are slim. hope this helps some, Cryo |

The odd's of it happening EVER are slim!
I predict, Rambus will be belly up in 2 years time. DDR is going to Kick them in the nutz. Intel has dropped the contract for Rambus by mid next year.... who else will use that crap??? and if they keep bully'n the memory market... I think someone will kick their ass ![]() ------------------ C-ya Joe - Owner/Editor www.ProCooling.com Where the Completely Addicted Come to Cool Off Somebody set up us the bomb. |

Obviously we all hate Rambus for their pricing and licensing and exclusive deals and stuff, but DDR and rambus have very similar performance...

Nope.. I hate rambus just cause of what it is. -> the DiVX of RAM!
(by divx, I mean the real divx, the CC proprietary DVD format... now dead ![]() ------------------ C-ya Joe - Owner/Editor www.ProCooling.com Where the Completely Addicted Come to Cool Off Somebody set up us the bomb. |

Why? It is good stuff ... just no good motherboard would ever come of it ... and DDR will be better

all we have to do is wait for RAMBUS to lose one legal case, and then there will be precedent
