LCD wiring

I recently bought two lcds from allelectronics.com and one didnt come with any wiring schematics. Could you possibly tell me the pin numbering? Does it go 1,2 accross or 1,2 and so on down the column?

The brand or model of the LCD would be helpful....
Most liekly the dot shows Pin1, but after that it could go several different ways

Heres the details:
Alesis Corp. G8 LCD. 16 x 2 LCD. Module size: 4.85" x 1.7." Display size: 3.67" x 1.05." Black bezel around the display, 4" x 1.46." Input through 16 pin male header, 2 x 8 pins on 0.1" centers. LED backlight operates on 5 Vdc. No spec or hook-up sheet available.
