new water cooled case layout - need input

http://digitalsimplicity.com/mike/case/

obviously its not made yet... but what do you guys think?

the plumbing will be 1/2 from the eheim to a T... then off to each rad... then one rad will feed 3/8" to the block and video
the other rad will feed 3/8" to the chipset and hard drive cooler.
then both lines go into the res, and one 1/2" line goes back to the eheim.

fans: both 120mm fans are pullin air into the case at 5v.
the power supply, along with some exhaust fans that i havent figure out exact placement will pull air out the top

i just picked up some slot fans, and i think they will be able to cover it, if not i could always make a blow hole or 2

oh and i was gonna make this outta plexy... but i know i will scratch the hell out of it, so maybe i could make it out of something more durable, and add windows to the front and the top
if you guys think of any cool material for it let me know!!!

hmm....heh, cool.
but, the CPU and GPU make the most heat right? wouldnt it be better to put the CPU and NB on one circuit and the GPU and hdd on the other circuit? that way the GPU will be cooled a little better (as the heated water from the CPU wouldnt be used to cool the GPU).

i may do that, plenty of room for testing that, but as of right now my hard drive block seems to put the most heat into the water.

and before anyone gets mad about the fact that i am blowing the warm air from the rads into my case... the air comming off this same setup but with only one rad is 2-5 degrees over ambient. i figure it will go through fast enough that there wont be much saturation.... but if its too hot i can always make 90degree shrouds and blow the air out the side, then put a fan on the back (between the rads and above the pump)

but still i want everyones info... and mainly on material that i should make this out of

Default hmmm

how about u make the case taller... and add a 80 mm fan above the pci slots and then one by the cpu socket...

you can run two panflo 80mm LAs ... very silent... i can't even hear the ones i have in my case..

or you can add blow holes on the top of the case by those two areas ..

Default ack

ack your posts came as i was writing mine hehe...

well i made a case out of plexi glass.. had it till my little cousin wanted it and passed it off ... worked well actually and very light.

it was square like yours and basicly had two compartments

on the bottom was the mb and i had two panflos 120 la's pulling air in and then two above the pic and cpu area pulling air up to the upper compartment.

the upper compartment had my drives cdrom drive and psu ...
I had two fans up there same as before and in the back another two on the top pulling the air up. those though were 120mm ha's ...

it was silent two ... i heard the two 60mm fans on the heatsinks over the sound of the 120's ...

oh also on the top i had one of the 120's blowing air across the hardrives.

this ran my dual p2 350 machine for about 2 years

very nice setup, I agree about the 80mm fans though, just make it 80mm taller, and have 4x 80mm at the top of the case, so you motherboard has some airflow over it

1/2" MDF perhaps? It's very tough wood (IE: takes a while to cut). But, it's also very very stong wood, and cheap to boot.

im thinking aluminum.. i hate how wood cases look
and an all plexy case would freak me out with all the radiation i would get.

edit: actually i dont think i would get much radiation due to the fact that i have big ass chunks of copper on my main chips...
radiation from a computer is something i havent really looked into.. anyone know some good links? gonna have to research it a bit

radiaton? what radiation, I have always had my case open to me sitting right beside me. and have had no effects from this........

can someone tell me why im groing a finger out of my head?

very very nice setup. But one thing to do if its plexy. Get some 1 inch squares for all the corners and bolt them together. That glue is strong, but I fear that the first time U try and move it. CRACK! on the seams.

also working with plexi can be very hard with normal hand tools.

Fixittt , I'm sure your little soldiers disagree with you on that :-) haha

Yes use hinges to put the plexi together....

If your making your own case, ditch the 80mm fans and set it up to use 120mm fans. More flow for less noise

And I would say use aluminum for construction. Cheap and fairly easy to work with. Just make sure you put a stiffner bar in the middle of the "back side" (behind the mb) to keep it sturdy if you make it tall.

Regarding radiation - much less than what you get from a lot of monitors (or a cellphone or....) and the levels are low enough that unless you do what Fixitt does and keep your head in your case all day, not even worth thinking about.

where's the radiation coming from? I guess the monitor would be a possibility, but otherwise, someone is smoking something here

Digital is talking about EM type radiation, not nuclear

EMI?

From your computer, not enough to do damage to even itself.

update- i am pulling the plug on the makin of this case.. infact im giving the mobo and proc that i have now to my dad.

i got a sony mATX setup from best buy (dont ask... it was basically free)

after looking inside the case i decided that it would be a HUGE challenge to do a complete water cooling setup to this thing.
so i am splicing this thread over to:
