my pick can't be for HP, cause they make nice printers and scanners.
As gateway took over several good New Zealand computer companies, then just left the NZ market I have to vote for gateway. Their computers suck too. I couldn't vote dell either, even though they don't do amd stuff. I just love my Dell notebooks

I had to go with Compaq, mostly since Packard bell is like gone here and I have atleast managed to get some reusable parts out a few of their machines.

I had to sit for a minute and decide between HP and Compaq.
HP got the vote. I seem to be the tech guy here at home lol. I live with friends, and we have 5 systems in the house (3 are mine) and I get the chore of keeping everything running smoothly. My buddy owned a Compaq for the last few years, and it was a pain in the ass. He replaced it with a Hewlet-Packard... and that system is a complete pain in the ass. At least I scored a nice monitor, and some usable parts from the compaq. He won't let me build a system for him, because he's worried about support. Funny, I am the support for the POS oem's he gets anyway. ![]() |

the cpu and monitor aren't dell's fault, they don't make them. but the mobo is....
my dell has been through 2 mobo's, 2 screens, 3 keyboards, two trackpad's, one hdd. but I can't complain really, I ring them up, they are there with 5 hours each time with replacement parts.

My vote would have to be with Dell. Not that their servers or notebooks are that bad, in fact they are fairly nice (though not as nice as Toshiba notebooks or HP or IBM servers). Rather it has more to do with the fact that in my job I have to deal with Dell's "support" and sales staff on a daily basis. It's a long story but needless to say I have had some less than favorable experiences with them in the past. Oh but as far as I'm concerned their desktops are overpriced, under powered, and a bitch to work on.

Well, Dell makes some ok boxes. I dislike gateway. They are evil. Just my two cents. I love IBM. I have several of their servers here at the house.

Scumpaq gets my vote for sure! Their comps and notebooks sucks! And I've heard some stories about their "customer support".

Gateway gets my vote...
Toshiba makes excellent laptops... Sony and HP may not make great PCs but they do make other cool toys. Packard Bell would have had my vote if they were still around. My first PC was a Packard Bell... I've had 7 computers since then... I'm almost done paying off the dang packard bell. |

Dell... My family has owned two Dell's. I had to RMA my speakers Altec Lansing ADA885s 5 days before the warrenty was up. Which they gladly replaced for free
![]() Compaq... We have owned 2 laptops from them, and they have been great. Despite the fact that using the 333 laptop is slow as shit now... I still like 'em. Toshiba, I've repaired about 6 of these. They're easy to work with, roomy cases. The only problems I've ever seen with them are the HD's shit the bit... but that's not their fault. HP, I just hate their bubble cases.... Comp Tech nightmare.... Acer! Sucks a big fat ______ Had 2 of em. yeck Gateway's are just overpriced Dells, not tuned for performance... I really don't like them. I'll definatly agree that Sony/HP make cool gagits, as for their computers, I don't know.

I definitely voted for Packard Bell, but they shouldn't count. They were so bad that they went out of biz in the USA.

While I'm not particularly fond of any OEM, my vote goes to Gateway, for the surprisingly shitty ads they have.
