Hi, sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm shopping around for some silicone hose and found this stuff on mcmaster.com for $1.22/foot.
Silicone Rubber Tubing Soft, 1/2" ID, 5/8" OD, 1/16" Wall, Translucent, 50A Is this what I'm looking for? I've got a TEC setup (1/2" OD barbs) and would like to switch my vinyl hosing to silicone. Thanks! Last edited by drew; 04-18-2002 at 05:49 PM. |

Si is good. Tygon may be a tad better.
Both will work. |

I believe the thick walled stuff is the preferred choice..
1/8" walls x 2. so, 1/2 ID, 3/4 OD . There is one thickness in the middle.. might be worth a shot. But yeah, I found out about tygon the day after I ordered my silicon... arghhh! It's strecthy, yet chemically resistant (probably won't absorb the water wetter), and is clear, not opaque.

I've been using the thick walled tygon (1/2 id 3/4 od) for a few days now and it's amazing. This stuff bends tightly without restricting flow; the full diameter stays open. My flow rate is noticably higher than with the vinyl I was using because the vinyl flattens out somewhat and kinks easily. There is also no bend memory with this stuff. I had just changed my vinyl tubing a month ago, added a water wetter, and within that time my vinyl had turned a little opaque and somewhat more rigid. Strange. Well I guess it's goodbye vinyl...Helllooo Tygon
