I think the big question is: What is NOT an ECU Pirate?

Interesting. North Carolina and South Carolina I am familiar with, but East Carolina is a new one.

I had alwys heard Charlotte was a nice city, but I went there last fall and had an absolutely terrible time. Dunno what people use to judge good cities (not the quality of bars in downtown obviously)

By that logic Detroit would be Paradise, 'specially if you like ethnic food w/your American beer (I do miss it once and a while, Detroit, not American beer)

ECUPirate:
Just for the record, ECU looks like a good school and I think it's great to see someone that has enough pride in there College (there seems to be a lack of it in general, I blame Gates ) to use it as a user name. Especialy when someone stays in the same College for more than one semester. (I did 7 schools in 4 years )

I have only been to two universities and I loved both: Louisiana State (1992-1996) and University of Delaware (1997-present).

hrm never been to Detroit before; assumed it was all street gangs and explosions (got that impression from Robocop though so my impression may be skewed).

University of MI, a few comm colleges, MI state, Eastern MI, Suomi College, Western MI, Univ of AK fairbanks, U of AK Anchorage. then got really tired.

You must be goin for your Doctrine, or damn near close.

Detroit isn't really all that bad, it just smells funny. For more information about Detroit, visit your local Blockbuster. Rent 'The Rosary Murders; My Life; Renasaince Man (just the beginning).

I was just thinking, If I would've used my HS mascot as a user name, it would've been 'salemRock'. No wonder I didn't have much school pride

heh.. just noticed this thread.

Yeah, ECU is a university in eastern North Carolina. (about 1.5 hrs from the beach.) It's a cool school. A couple years back, Playboy ranked us as the number one party school in the land. We still hold our own.. You can party here, or you can study and learn quite a bit. I'm in my sixth year.. (I finish my master's in accounting in May).
Peedee (or Pete, not sure) the Pirate is our mascot. I use it as a username because it works on so many levels.

I didn't know it took ten years to get a doctorate, but I guess it would if you bothered to get a Master's degree first. I thought about getting a Master's or a Doctorate (accelerated program that skipped the silly Master's degree). However, I just couldn't motivate myself. Kudo's to pHaestus!

I was seduced by the lure of a salary with a quick route for advancement. Ahh... it was great being a software engineer during the dotcom boom! (It's still good, but it certainly doesn't pay as much as it used to.) Choice: four to six more years of school with increasing debt and politics, or immediate money.... Besides, Computer Science research is booooooring. All you play with is the chalkboard. Applied computer science is fun! You get to play with fast computers, robots, lasers, big motors, electron microscopes, physics equations, thermodynamics.... Much more fun!

Not 10 years for doctorate; 4.5 for undergrad and 5 to get Ph.D with no masters. I took 0.5 years off; so sue me
