tubling 3/8 and 1/2 they look the same?

I have both 3/8 and 1/2id tubing but the look the same size and everything how can i tell if there not?

is the id the out size or inside?

ID = inner Diameter
OD= outer "

Some thin walled 1/2" is roughly the same OD as thick walled 3/8". but the ID is noticably larger
