what is the deal with dc pumps. I would like to hook the pump to my PSU if possible instead of running AC cord outside of case.
any pros, cons? where can I find one? Thanks |

Most but not all are bilge pumps that will burn out in about 2 months of 24/7 use. The ones that aren't are expensive. The bilge pumps can be had cheap but the good ones start at about 135$ and go up from there.
That includes another site thaqt shall remane nameless that sells a fairly nice looking aluminum res with a 500gph dc pump. BEWARE THEY ARE USING A BILGE PUMP. They will take you for your money and leave without anything but a nice looking alu res.

I concur. When you go with a DC pump, your leaving the world of reliable and quiet magdrive pumps. It's well worth the time and effort to wire in an AC pump.

Thanks for all your help. This is my first water cooled system. Can't wait to join the club. ![]() |

Uh well most of them have warranties in the years. That is two to three years.

They should last a very long time.
As for DC pumps, it makes little sense to burden your power supply with one, when you already have AC in your power supply. |

You'll have to look at the pumps rating, where it says Duty Cycle.
If the duty cycle is in percentage (as it usually is), then you'll have to keep it in mind if you're considering a 24/7 setup. You might be able to run a pump 24/7 even if it's not rated for it, if you've got a fan on it, but not always. On the other hand, you could trade your worry off for an on-off switch... |

Also, the good thing about Eheims is that, because they're designed for aquarium usage, they're designed for a 100% duty cycle.
